thought this deserved it's on thread. imho the only version to get is the walmart "big screen" version with the imax scenes. It has a few battle sequences filmed to fill your hdtv, it's also the cheapest version at $19.99 for the bluray. The incredible transfer makes the human actors look great and each transformer look incredible. The sound track makes heavy use of the surrounds in the battle scenes for an uncanny sense of immersion. LF effects are incredible and take full advantage of my bass shakers embedded in my couch. Special features are seemingly endless. An entire disc dedicated to commentary , story boards and dociers on each transformer completes the bluray package.Overall good acting and plenty of special features but terrible plot/story line. What saves the it is it's serious reference quality not oly in terms of video but also audio. One of the best looking and sounding blurays to date.Visuals are stunning, and the sound track is guaranteed to piss off the neighbors.Besides the movie making no sense the only negative i can think of is the amazing clarity of megan fox's toe thumbs in the final scenes.
*btw be sure to use the 3$ off papajohns coupon makes it $18.xx after taxes

The only racism is coming from the people that associated black actors to this stereotype.
and at the same time...if it was so 'racist' they could have turned the rolls down.

i think you give michael bay and the other people responsible for this abortion of a movie too much credit.
look, i'm not saying that michael bay or the writers intentionally created these incredibly lame characters as a sort of social commentary on the urban black population because 1. they aren't smart enough, and 2. it wouldn't really have any place in a movie about space traveling sentient robots waging war on earth anyway. the fact is, there have been 3 characters now in two transformers movies that clearly make you think, "ok yeah, this is obviously supposed to be a black dude here." jazz was harmless enough in the first one, but the twins or whatever in the sequel are just plain obnoxious on bay's and the writers' parts. what do the rest of you who think observation of blatant ridiculous stereotyping find this hip-hop slang talking robot with a gold tooth who can't read or communicate in any form of english outside of ebonics to be more aligned with? no one in particular? hmm. yeah ok. but i'm the racist because i know better? please.
i don't mind racist humor. i love chapelle's show, but then again, who doesn't? my beef with these characters is that the direction they tried to take them in was completely unnecessary and infantile and seemed like some sort of cruel punishment for actually paying money to watch that 2 and a half hour piece of trash.
Quote : | "I haven't seen it or have any desire to see it, but if it isn't racist then why is EVERYONE involved pushing the 'blame' to someone else?" |
this. i read a recent interview with the writers where they pretty much asked michael bay if he was sure he wanted to use those characters, and they said he didn't want to change them in any way. so there's the writers saying, "hey, not our fault." bay claims that's the direction the voice actors took the characters in, so he's pointing the finger at the actors like he had nothing to do with it. clearly these people know that they might not have used the best discretion with these characters, and they all want to point the finger at someone else.10/22/2009 2:47:56 PM |

If only these kids Michael Bay intentionally stereotyped in his movie were smart enough to identify said characters and realize how ridiculously dumb they are as human beings and change their ways. I am sure that is what he had envisioned all along!
and in all honesty even if they are intentionally stereotyping these kids...who the fuck cares...they are worthless human beings therefore their opinions don't count. (this goes towards kids of all races who act and talk like that, as pictured above)

@ Rat Soup bc I don't want to quote 30 pages of text.
Obviously even though the twins were robots, thus didn't have a "race" per-se, they were voiced to represent a couple of black guys (not necessarily all black guys).
I guess it becomes a question of whether any negative traits portrayed by a character of a particular race has to be considered racist.
Let's take this guy, for example:
Obviously even though this guy is a car, he's meant to represent a southern white man. He's also incredibly dumb.
Is this a racist representation? If not, why are the Twins?

i understand that the reactions caused by the characters weren't intended. i just find it hard to believe that SOMEONE responsible for this movie didn't say, "wait a minute. do we REALLY need to make these characters the way they are?"
for the record, i enjoy racist comedy that is well written and executed, i.e. chapelle's show, the boondocks, and wonder showzen. but there is just absolutely no defense or excuse for what michael bay and co. did with the 2 characters in this movie. the intentions weren't there, i know, but they still should've seen this coming.10/22/2009 4:41:17 PM |

^I would rather see things like this then watch intentional racist shows like chapelle's. He should be beaten within an inch of his life for profiting off of that garbage. (but its ok because he's black African American ).
And the only reason anyone would even think that these two clowns in the movie are racist stereotypes is because either A) they act the same way and got called the fuck out or B) they know someone who does. If he made them act like dim witted air heads...thats offensive to ALL blondes
/cry
Hell, I was more offended that they didn't portray the Great Pyramids in their actual location...because he's stereotyping that anyone who watches Transformers is an idiot and wouldn't know any better.

Not at all, how would it be?
There are people who act and talk like the twins, and are black. There are also people who act and talk like Mater from Cars, and are white.
Maybe both should be offensive to people who act and talk like those characters, but usually those people are the ones laughing the loudest.10/22/2009 5:03:44 PM |

and i never thought it was racist either but i was picturing them as jamie kennedy from malibu's most wanted. just two idiots trying to be thug. shit i've seen someone of every race come off like that.
