So looking at my brother's xbox360 its got a 0013 error (overheating). Should I tell him to RROD it with the blanket trick? Its still covered I think under E74 extended warranty.
Standard symptom is if it turns on it only stays on a few mins. 0013 error is ram solder meltdown. 10/26/2009 8:50:14 PM |

i'd be a little more certain than "i think" in regards to the warranty 10/26/2009 9:20:02 PM |

it has a manu date of 07. 3 years is '10. Therefore by basic math of 3 year extended warranty it should be covered. Ive never had to deal with this (this is why i own PS's and not xbox's, they keep breaking i hear), so I dont know how all this works.
Ive heard if you have a non e74 error to just make it a e74 error through various ways... and they replace the mobo. 10/26/2009 10:17:55 PM |

They won't replace it for the error that he's getting? 10/27/2009 12:27:10 AM |

Supposedly there is a new chipset for 360s which reduces the failure rate from 50%+ to something like 10%. I'm not sure if MS puts that into older boxes when they fix them under warranty, though (probably not unless they end up having to ship a brand new box out).10/27/2009 12:55:01 AM |

^ I also dont play Halo...
^^ They only have the extended 3 yr warranty on the E74 error, not on all other heat issue errors. Which really sucks but ya. But can someone confirm they only replace the chip or the whole mobo? 10/27/2009 10:58:05 AM |

If I'm not mistaken xbox 360's are still covered for 3 years in the event of RRoD, just not E74 until this year.
Quote : | "While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays “E74” on their screen. After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007. We have already made improvements to the console that will reduce the likelihood of an occurrence of this issue." |

Correct. Sorry I got you confused. The standard RROD error code is E74 but its not the only one. I have a general overheating issue right now, not a RROD. 10/27/2009 7:29:51 PM |

I'd RROD that mofo and send it in. Both E74 and 0013 are heat related. If you've got the error there's always a chance you've got some permanent chipset heat damage which will inevitably manifest itself at a later date. 10/28/2009 4:56:44 PM |
