OK all, ive got a lenovo W500 that when the lid is shut suspends itself and then resumes about 5 mins later. It will cycle this until the owner (not me) turns it off or just leaves it running(by leaving lid open).
I checked all the windows pwr manager stuff, its set to suspend on lid shut. I havnt had a chance to check the lenovo software on it. I also havnt checked to see if it stays suspended if manually told to (either through windows or hotkey).
Anyone got any starting ideas on why its resuming without being opened? 10/31/2009 3:45:06 PM |

Anything plugged into either the USB or card slots? Generally when you have a problem like this, it's because some piece of hardware keeps telling the computer to wake up. 10/31/2009 4:43:50 PM |

What happens if the lid stays open and you press the power button to make it suspend? Does it stay suspended? If no, then agree with ^. If yes, try using hibernation as a workaround. 10/31/2009 4:56:47 PM |

^ that I need to check. Hense the manually told to.
Havnt checked the USB route yet, thats the idea I wanted. I know its got a wireless mouse and a printer attached.
I need to teach them about hibernation, as I know right now its not enabled. Its what I personally use and recco for laptops in situations like this. 11/2/2009 8:42:31 AM |

Chances are, this is your problem.
BT/wireless mice and/or their supporting software are notorious for causing issues with windows sleep/screensaver/power options.

ok. Thanks for all the advice. Will test the mouse first.
Anyone more familiar with lenovo software have an idea where to look? Im sure I can find it if its that, but Id rather not look for 2 hrs to find it was on page 1 11/2/2009 2:39:21 PM |

You have several options in terms of software updates:
1) Use ThinkVantage System Update (may or may not find latest drivers) 2) Use website (Support -> Drivers -> Enter model number or choose 'Driver Matrices')
Here's the link if you feel like being lazy http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70443
Two things that I would do first: - Update BIOS (carefully... follow instructions exactly as stated) - Update Power Manager Software & Driver 11/2/2009 4:40:31 PM |

It was none of them.
It was wake on lan lol. Somehow it was enabled on her adaptor. Im not sure why though it was being bothersome as the university doesnt use it, at least in the dorms... Im guessing someone in their dorm has a server set up for it. Disabled it, did the trick. thx all! 11/4/2009 9:52:56 AM |

I would like to comment that this thread has been helpful. I was curious why my XPS would still be fully lit like a fucking runway the next morning after i closed it the night before. I will now try removing the mouse connector when i close it. 11/4/2009 11:05:43 AM |
