Fuck you. Ok? Fuck. You. I am sick of your shit. I'd really like to see a good game at 1PM today. The Bengals/Ravens game would be ideal. I'd even settle for the Colts/Texans game, even though I never thought those words would come from my mouth.
Do I get to see either of these promising match-ups? No. No I don't. Instead, I get another fucking Patriots game shoved down my throat. Super. Granted, you aren't solely responsible for this, but you're still at fault. The first SIX weeks of the season, our market got the following games: NE/BUF, NE/NYJ, ATL/NE, BAL/NE, NE/DEN, and TEN/NE. In fact, the only two weekends we were fortunate enough NOT to see New England play, they were in London frapping the Bucs, and at home on their Bye week.
But nooooo. Here we are again, Week 9 getting another Patriots game. HELLLLOOO! MCFLY!!!! WE ARE NO WHERE NEAR NEW ENGLAND! You are aware there are some other teams in the AFC, right? In fact, there are about 9 other AFC teams closer to our market than New England. Get your shit together and stop this. There is still time.

I've been in Raleigh 21 years, and no it hasn't always been this way. We've always gotten the Panther's game since they originated as a franchise, because they're the local team. I'm not complaining about that level of coverage, it makes sense. They're the local team, we should see them play every week.
Behind the Panthers, we've gotten more Pats games than any other team in the league. It's fucking retarded. Just because they've been successful this decade, doesn't mean that a majority of the country wants to see them play. If you've a local affiliate, and you get to pick between 3-4 games, wouldn't you want to pick a good match-up? I would have put both indy/houston and baltimore/cincy above new england/maimi. A couple of weeks ago, we were forced to watch more than 3 quarters of the Pats buttfucking the titans while closer, better games were on.
Whoever is making these decisions needs to be drug out into the street and shot repeatedly.11/8/2009 7:12:15 PM |

Dear CBS,
Why the fuck are you showing the WAS/DEN game? The best 1PM match-up is the Steelers and the Bengals. Why are you showing a match-up featuring a team that has lost it's last 2 straight, and one of the worst teams in the league?

The network is the ultimate decider in which games get shown where, not the local affiliates. Affiliates can request specific games, but they are at the discretion of the actual network. 11/15/2009 9:16:59 PM |

I was under the impression the affiliate could pretty much pull down whatever feed they wanted, as long as there aren't contract issues (like the NFL's gay blackout rules). I feel like WRAL has told CBS where to stick it a few times in regards to what basketball games to show. 11/15/2009 9:53:42 PM |

I really don't think the affiliates choose. Otherwise the coverage maps would be so sporadic with different games instead of regions being dominated by one game. 11/15/2009 9:55:56 PM |
Talage All American 5093 Posts user info edit post |
Haha, its not like they're going to bother to go out and ask each station which one they're planning to show and then build the coverage map. The coverage map would just tell you what the normal feed would be for that region. 11/15/2009 10:02:48 PM |
Sayer now with sarcasm 9841 Posts user info edit post |
Go look at coverage maps week for week. If local alliliates can choose which game they want, then the maps would be a checkerboard clusterfuck of different games shown. They're not. They're extremely uniform. The networks choose which games are shown where. 11/15/2009 11:04:17 PM |

Quote : | "Who decides what games get shown in my area? The networks, with some guidance from the NFL. The league sets "primary markets" and "secondary markets" for most teams, and those markets are required to show all road games involving the "local" team. Primary markets are required to air home games too, unless they don't sell out. The "primary market" is the market in which the team is physically located (i.e. Boston for the Patriots). The "secondary markets" are adjoining markets assigned at the discretion of the league (again using the Patriots example, Providence). Secondary markets are not required to air home games, and if there's another team nearby, they don't. Not all markets are designated by one team or another as a secondary market (in fact, most aren't), usually only the ones closest to the stadium -- the ones that would be blacked out if not a sellout. Other markets can air one team’s games more often than not, but that rule isn’t set in stone. Some stats about airing patterns: 2005, 2006.
Harrisburg PA is a good example. Because Baltimore is the closest team, the NFL has designated it a Ravens secondary market. However, the stations there have noticed there are more Steelers fans. So the CBS affiliate there, despite having to air Ravens *road* games in case of a Steelers conflict (and enduring the wrath of the local fans every time it happens), they do air the Steelers whenever the Ravens play at *home*.
Outside of these primary and secondary markets, and even in them if the local team isn't playing, the network is the sole arbiter of what game gets shown where, but usually after taking input from the local affiliates. Affiliates can request a particular game be shown to their market, and the network will (usually) agree unless it runs against the secondary market rules. The CBS affiliate in Orlando in 2005, after several desperate attempts, couldn't show a Dolphins-Buccaneers game because, for some reason, the NFL said Orlando is a Jaguars market.
As I said earlier, stations in the 32 team markets are not allowed to air a game if the other network has a local team's home game at the same time. Instead, they have to air one in the other timeslot. The rule does not specifically apply if the local team is on the road, but that's on the doubleheader network, the singleheader network usually airs a game in the opposite timeslot. This is usually how those Raiders-Texans duds end up on the air in Cleveland." |

Yeah, we got the Raiders/Chiefs in Charlotte, so I don't want to hear it. The only good thing is Gus Johnson was at that game. Unfortunately, Steve Tasker, the analyst, was God-awful. He questioned whether Oakland should go for it on 3rd down.11/16/2009 1:28:52 AM |

And thanks again to CBS, we will be seeing yet another New England game this weekend. This makes 9 out of 11 weeks we've had a Patriots game aired in our market, the second most behind the Panthers.
OH BUT WAIT! If you don't get the NFL Network like a vast majoring of people in NC, then you didn't even see tonight's game! So at this point, a team 1100 miles away from us has the same number of broadcasts in our area as our home fucking team?! SERIOUSLY?!?!
And a preemptive fuck-u-very-much to the NFL for scheduling NE for back to back Mon/Sun night games, there-by force-feeding us all two more weeks of this team. At least we can hold out hope that the NFL exercises the flex schedule for that Sunday game and changes it to a different match-up.
Thanks for the variety.

Here are the CBS AFC games that have aired locally over the last few weeks and the games they could have played and most of us (I would argue most NFL fans) would have prefered.
Week 9
MIA v NE over a key Cinc v Bal game. Hell I would have rather watched Indy v Houston too
Week 10
Denver v Wash over Cincy v Pitt
