August Turak is coming here to do a meeting, hes a man with a message which i feel a lot of people especially a few on here could get something from
because of the stigma associated with things of this nature i don't quite know how to describe it/him without making it sound weird but for an idea http://tinyurl.com/cnaj8d http://tinyurl.com/5ox8hshttp://www.selfknowledge.org/turak/turak.htm
The meeting is in Riddick 461 at 7:30pm Thursday November 12th, if you come and participate i think you'll get something out of it.

Sounds like religious bullshit wrapped up in a "motivational speech" package. 11/10/2009 10:16:24 AM |

Yeah... right. Just like all those religious pamphlets left out at malls: "Why am I here? What is my purpose? JESUS."11/10/2009 10:29:24 AM |

i realize how it sounds, but its not religious, its not about God or Jesus or religion or even finding a religion. 11/10/2009 10:37:33 AM |

if i didnt live in DC and have such a busy week, i'd be there. any chance to hear him talk is golden. i can honestly say some of the things he's said have had a lasting impact on my life, in a good way. with that said, i wouldn't so much call him motivational as thought provoking and inspiring. 11/10/2009 10:45:12 AM |

SKS is not a cult
it's just that they occasionally use cultish techniques 11/10/2009 4:22:43 PM |

one time i saw this guy... he wanted to show us a movie clip that supposedly had a profound effect on his life
so he starts the clip and its that scene from american beauty, the one where the plastic bag is blowing around, and the guy is saying "there is so much beauty in the world" or some shit like that
and then he openly wept for 20 minutes
in front of strangers
at first i was like
but then i was like 11/10/2009 9:22:59 PM |

^ YES! I was hoping somebody would mention this happening in greater detail.
When I was a freshman this same SKS debate popped up, and that same thing popped up then about "OMG A PLASTIC BAG SO BEAUTIFUL!"
Post some youtube clips about this guy (or tell him to go post youtube clips about himself) so people can determine whether or not he should be declared a witch and set on fire or if he'd be fun to listen to while high on drugs. 11/10/2009 10:31:05 PM |

For the freshmen / sophomores reading TWW (are there still any?), this is worth going to. You may not personally get anything out of it, but, do expand your viewpoints and attend / listen. If you are in Scholars, this should be able to get counted as a Scholars event if it is not already. 11/11/2009 6:03:01 AM |

I went to his talk in 2001 with a friend and my then gf. We were really excited about.
He never told us the secret about eternal happiness, only that we had to attend his actual retreats to learn it.
And I asked him how his current spirituality tied in with him being a founder of MTV, a completely base and materialistic channel. He basically said that that was along time ago, and he had changed.
Anyway, the talk sales pitch was excruciatingly painful. 11/12/2009 9:26:49 AM |
