A woman knowingly sold her 5 year old daughter into a prostitution "ring" to a pedophile, who proceeded to rape and killed her. Motherfucker is smiling in his mugshot. as much as i would also like to pick and choose people who i think should be murdered slowly and painfully (people that hurt children, child molesters, etc) i am fundamentally opposed to the death penalty. sigh.

it is really hard to go against my natural human instincts (hypocrisy, being the main one) but this is like the one thing i really believe in...errrr...don't believe in. or whatever.

i'm in child ad law right now and we've talked a lot about stuff like this and it just sucks because i really wish we could just chop off these peoples heads like immediately or burn them at the stake or something...but it doesn't work like that. and as long as there continue to be so many disparities w the application of the death penalty (IMO) i can't support it. plus, i am fundamentally opposed to it just on principle but i might be willing to be more accepting of a more evenly applied penalty.

child adv law is soooo interesting but stuff like this literally makes me sick. i don't get how people can be so horrible. but then on the other hand i'm always like "criminals have rights too." and then i just get really confused and decide that i would rather just do transactional law so i never have to deal with this stuff in real life. it is too confusing. and sad.

for anyone who has followed this story in more detail, the father had recently allowed the daughter to go and live with her mother full time. obviously he is genuinely devastated about his daughter's death, but why on earth would let this kid go with mom in the first place (after raising her himself for most of her life). i get that he wanted to give the mom a chance to parent since she had recently "gotten herself together", but the trailer park that she was living in is easily one of the worst in fayetteville (physical condition and crime rate, currently houses 3 registered sex offenders). then look at the company she keeps, DSS and law enforcement involvement earlier this year, and a drug bust? it just seems like this guy wasn't keeping good tabs on things... not that he is to blame for what happened, i'm just saying. he is going to have some serious guilt to deal with.

I do not believe in Capital punishment, but I do believe in justice. A greater justice would be to let these people live very long lives in complete isolation in maximum security prisons with no hope of parole. There is no sanctity in defending these individuals, but there is sanctity in defending human life against the judgment of man.
