What kind of these things do people wear these days? I think I am going to buy a new one. Something plain, probably black, that will be really warm and is nice enough to wear out and maybe to work or whatnot.
What do you people have? 11/17/2009 1:39:32 PM |

Yeah I guess I should have mentioned that's not really the kind of thing I'm talking about.
Or is it?
I guess I'm not sure which is why I made this thread. I won't be buying North Face, though. 11/17/2009 1:44:14 PM |

I have several fleeces (marmot, northface, mountain hardware), brown suede, brown leather (coach- really soft), a tan "canvas" (I don't know the term for the material) with chorderoy (sp?) collar and cuffs, and green wool (I think it is wool) jacket that has leather elbows (dad's old jacket he got when I was born but never wore- i actually really like it)... and some others that I'm forgetting I'm sure
I pretty much wear fleeces everywhere though 11/17/2009 1:45:03 PM |

2 blue multitone windbreaker jackets (polo and nike i think..) light 1 black with white accents medium jacket (nike) not windbreaking though 1 black leather jacket, (roundtree and york) with insulation and liner ~1/5" thick 1 dark green diagonally seemed cotten? coat with insulation and liner ~1/4 - 3/8" thick(buttons) 1 thick stuffed grey and blue heavy coat.
i would probably like a really good light-medium-heavy shell based coat with a waterproof windbreaking outer shell, a fleece lined like middle/inner shell with some possible cover.
need: scarves (grey, black, blue, red), my hat back (red knit), a different newer large knit hat. another thick high necked fleece. some sort of pants other than jeans, sweatpants, or khakis. new pair of relaxed dressy shoes (my grey ones are coming apart inside, need something like some dark sketchers or ?), another pair of thinnish patagonia wool socks, a new brown, black belt. leather gloves. a few more close fitting thermal shirts would also be good (great undershirts).
sorry i went into more than just jackets and coats.
but speaking of coats i think i need to treat the leather on my coat with something, any idea what? mink oil? something else?
i do need some dressier coats though... i like that wool one, interesting ideas itt

I bought my husband a black wool pea coat from Old Navy for his birthday. It was on sale 50% off, and then I got an additional 30%. Total cost was $27. 11/17/2009 3:27:30 PM |

I had and loved a Old Navy peacoat for several years. My current peacoat is from Target, though.
I wear an Old Navy blazer when it's not quite cold enough for the peacoat.11/17/2009 3:58:34 PM |

I got this DKNY jacket years ago that was normally $685 but they had that shit labelled wrong, got it for $135... its the shit. Bouncers used to borrow it from me at the club to look extra fly. Only thing is it only gets cold enough to wear it a few days a year. 11/17/2009 4:15:16 PM |

Waterproof Columbia red/black with hood and zip-in liner, for casual bad-weather situations Columbia liner, black, wearable separately, functions as a fleece/windbreaker Old Navy fleece, orange Croft & Barrow microsuede/faux suede with heavier liner, brown, casual cold weather London Fog trenchcoat, tan, waterproof with zip-out liner--classic, works with nicer dress in bad weather Chaps 3/4 length wool coat, black, extremely warm, again good with nicer clothes but works with casual too
The long black wool coat is probably my favorite, but it can really only be worn when the weather is <40 otherwise I'll bake.
I need a black leather jacket--have an old one but it's scuffed and looks like shit.

I just bought a new winter jacket and decided to go with the Eddie Bauer 365 Primaloft Jacket. I tried on the EB800 coat but 800 fill down is just too heavy for the weather we see around here imo. The Primaloft is a synthetic down so it's not as expensive as a natural down coat but it's still VERY warm and light. 11/18/2009 1:22:43 AM |

people who where trench coats make me Although I"m convinced that some people on TWW don't know the difference between a rain coat and a trench coat.
As for pea coats, go to an army navy store and get a real one. Styling is classic, and it will be warmer. 11/18/2009 2:04:25 PM |

Go to a department store or some place like Jos. A Bank and get a nice wool topcoat, not that you'll ever need anything that heavy in NC, but they look awesome if you wear a suit to work every day.
I usually rock a peacoat or a really heavy leather jacket that I got many years ago. 11/18/2009 3:31:24 PM |

I gotta get a pea coat this year. It's a purchase I debate to make every year, but then always end up going for something cheaper.
For dress up/going out I've got two corduroy sports coats that are very warm. A khaki colored one and a very dark brown one. I've also got a faded black, almost faded to the point where it looks like a dark denim color, sport coat. But it isn't quite as warm as the corduroy ones. Other than that I have a few Columbia fleece jackets that I wear a lot.
But I live in fucking Charleston. So combined, there's about a month out of the year that I can wear those coats. That's what keeps me from dropping a couple hundred on a pea coat every year.
