my stove top flamed up when i was boiling water for ramen once. (previous cook had apparently had a pot of boiling water and butter boil over and did not clean it) i had just had an appendectomy and was still on pain meds. i stared at it for probably ten minutes after i took the pot off the eye and couldn't decide how to put it out then very smartly flicked a little water on it to see what happened. It flared up to the ceiling. then i dumped my ramen out and put the pot over the eye to suffocate it.
