i think i read somewhere about how it was the first movie to use stop motion "matrix" camera work for the scene where dorothy dives to the ground and immediately begins clawing up the yellow brick road thinking it is gold (instead of crystallized female disappointment) and shrieking at the cast and crew to "Grow up!" and "be a man and help (her)"
it wound up on the cutting room floor but you can tell something is going on because her jagged, broken fingernails are not shown again after that till halfway through the movie.
It is also because of this scene that "Spades" (the sentient shovel) never made it into the film at all (neccessitating the addition of the, now famous, flying monkies)
The wicked witch was originally penned to direct "Spades" to plant trimmed topiary in their path so that they would assume the Wizard was, in fact, living in a snooty overpriced subdivision full of smug assholes, and immediately turn around to look for a way to get the Cowardly Lion accepted into the country club, thus delaying them indefinitely. But technology had yet to find a way to make a screaming, injured child in a partially destroyed particle board shovel-costume look "passable" enough to film.

then you should have said, the book wicked is much better than the book the wizard of oz. i still say you can't really compare the two because you can't have wicked without the wizard of oz!

also, if you liked wicked you should read confessions of an ugly stepsister. so far it's my favorite gregory maguire book

if its a sequential series then yes, but this doesnt seem sequential, elphaba and brrrr are contemporaries and liir is elphabas son so in my mind the third book jumps back in time to the same time frame as the first book, hence why i was wondering if it was necessary to read the second book or if i could just skip it
