I always buy my stuff at Nahunta (Farmer's Market) but they're closed today. Just got roped into smoking some swine for thanksgiving and want to get it in the brine by tonight. Any suggestions where to buy a shoulder (10 lbs or so)?

Yeah - I played with doing that, but I don't want to pony up the $50 membership just to buy some swine. I'm going to swing down to the Farmer's Market during lunch and see if there's any other vendors.

I didn't see any at Harris Teeter this morning, but I was hauling ass and barely awake.

The Nahunta thing is just a habit, but yeah, I do like buying stuff over there vs. Lowes or something. No big deal.

I usually buy pork shoulders from Harris Teeter. They can run out, of course, but any grocery store with a butcher/decent meat section should have it.

I'd check the Teeter up at Cameron Village if you're in the area--if they don't have one The Fresh Market very well might, and it's just on the other side of CV.

BJ's, costco, Sam's.

I've gotten my Boston Butts at Sam's for the past few years.

Harris Teeter and Food Lion have the occasional 10+ lbsers. Sam's ftw if you're a member and Whole Foods if you want Food Lion meat with fancy packaging for twice the price. I'm actually smoking a butt either wed. or fri. I built a pot smoker a month or so ago. Similar to this but with two 18 in pots:

Why was nahunta closed? The five gallon buckets of lard trip me out every time I go to buy a pig.

yeah, so i made one of those pot smokers too... pain in the ass, and the meat wasn't worth the hassle i went through. I'd much rather tend charcoal.

You gotta find the black market butchers. Selling meat out of the trunk of a car is the only way to get top quality meat for little money.
