The movie supposedly came out yesterday, but I can't find any showings for it anywhere in North Carolina -- not for this weekend, and not for several days after. Anyone have any idea when we can expect it? They've advertised it around here for weeks on and off. I loved the book and have been eagerly awaiting the film for more than a year. 11/26/2009 5:25:57 PM |

I saw from the trailer what looked to be the fire that scorched the earth (or at lease America). I hope they dont go into any detail at all about what caused it. For me that was part of the book - not knowing how the characters arrived at the place they are in. 11/26/2009 6:24:19 PM |

^^^ probably started as a limited release.
it seems like the man's wife might play more of a role in the movie. i read the book about a year ago, but i don't remember her being in hardly any of it.

A friend saw it in Telluride and said it was pretty accurate and pretty OK. 11/26/2009 10:42:55 PM |

I read an article some months ago by a guy who had seen the movie (it was originally slated for release last year around this time) and was flabbergasted by the choices they made for the trailer, because it implied that the movie said anything about the disaster. So I think you're probably safe.
And yeah, I've read several times that the role of the Woman has been expanded from the book, and it's mixed reviews about whether or not that hurts the movie.

Which would be fine, if they'd ever hinted at that. The commercials that aired on Time Warner in Raleigh said it came out November 25. There weren't any caveats about "in some theaters November 25 and everywhere on so-and-so." More disturbingly, I've been looking around for a while and can't find any reference to when a wider US release will come about. Closest I can get is a statement that it will be released in the United Kingdom in fucking January.
The Weinstein company has repeatedly botched the release of this movie so often and so badly that I have very little hope for its success, even if it is great. Which gives studios less incentive to make great movies and more incentive to make shit ones.
Normally I'm not all about pirating movies, but they screwed me so hard on this one that I've had no qualms about asking my piracy-savvy friends to try to get a copy.11/27/2009 12:31:42 AM |

^ I don't understand what that has to do with anything. It's an ad.

^^ read the post before mine and you'll see what it has to do with it
theres these things called links and one from the imbd page has this quote
Quote : | "there don’t seem to be immediate plans for future expansion" |
BUT the fact that the company took an ad out on the front page of imdb means they want to build slow oscar buzz and not compete with new moon11/27/2009 7:02:22 PM |
