I need the part number for the clamps on the rack and pinion boots for a 2001 Ford Ranger 4x4 with a 4.0.
Ford, Advance, Napa, everybody seem to be useless today. I've looked through the Ford Parts Catalog and Mitchell and nothing is listed, but I have ordered them before? 11/30/2009 9:49:48 AM |

They are just regular stainless band clamps arent they? Advance carries those in a six pack for cheap.

Okay, so I did a search and the Band-it ones are the crappy ones that you have to use the tool to roll em up and them fold it over.
The Oetiker style is the kind I need, should just have to measure and then order from Granger. 11/30/2009 12:57:53 PM |

Dude, a lot of the parts stores have the Oetiker ones. Check with Car Quest. Fuck ordering from Grainger.
Do you have the crimping tool to use with Oetiker bands? 11/30/2009 1:01:00 PM |

Yea, I have the tool. I just ordered them from Granger. CarQuest had them but the we three bucks a piece compared to Grainger at 38 cents. I fugged the parts up by twenty bucks just for my hassle. It's another shop thats paying for the work not the customer so I probably could have shot it up $40 and there is nothing they could do. 11/30/2009 2:38:09 PM |

Don't you only need like four of them? Seems like a lot of hassle to save $6.50 or so. Just zip tie it and be done. 11/30/2009 5:05:57 PM |

Skack, this guy is a anal retentive dick, but he sends alot of business my way. I put a motor and transmission in another car of his a while back and he literally, no joke, took 100+ pictures top and bottom of the motor and tranny to "make sure" I didn't put something in the wrong place or forget a bolt. But, he pays, and again sends LOTS of business my way.
Optmus, this is the type of clamp I am talking about, they are the same that are usually on CV boots. I guess you technically don't have to have the tool, you could use a set of duck bill pliers or side cutters, but my first job was in a shop that only did CV's and tires so I still have the tool.

Still what I posted would do the job exactly the same, is available locally and even resembles the OE type clamps. 12/1/2009 5:47:13 PM |

They don't work the same, when immersed in water one will keep water out and the other won't. 12/1/2009 7:37:43 PM |
