If they insist on being added, just add them, and then hide all their updates from the feeds and restrict their access to your profile. In essence, it's the same thing as not adding them, but maybe it will prevent them from contacting you, lol.

I only delete people that I have no expectation of talking to again, and I go through the list maybe once every year. Facebook tends to figure out the ones that I care to hear from, and keeps them on my feed.
