I heard about this a while back :http://www.idonowidont.com/ I can't vouch for it, but it's an option.

sorry brother, but selling things of that nature is very difficult.
most resellers will lowball the hell out of you.
i wouldn't check out pawn shops until there is no other recourse. 12/11/2009 1:22:30 AM |

i thought some jewelers had some guarantee that if she said no you could bring it back??
unless of course she said yes and wore it around for a few months then decided no, in that case anyone who buys it will prob want a new band. maybe your best option is to sell the metal to a jeweler and sell the stone loose, not really telling that it was from a no-go engagement? 12/11/2009 8:08:02 AM |
quagmire02 All American 44225 Posts user info edit post |
you have a couple of options
you can take it to a jewelry consignment shop...what they'll do is tell you how much they'll give you for it IF it sells (let's say they tell you that they'll give you $1000...it may be worth $2000 and they sell it for $1500, so they pocket the cash and you get what they offered)...it is, however, contingent on it actually selling...this place is in cary: http://www.jointventurejewelry.com/
don't take it to pawn shop unless you only want the gold...i don't think they even consider any diamonds under 1ct (i could be wrong, and it depends on the shop, but they generally only pay you for the gold)
you could save it until the next one comes along and either 1.) use that same ring, or 2.) take it to a jewelry store that gives you credit for the piece toward the purchase of a new one
i had picked up an engagement ring on the cheap from an acquaintance that needed to get rid of it quickly (no, it wasn't stolen...he had just made a bad decision and needed ANY money rather than an engagement ring)...i hung onto it for a few years and then took it to reed's in cary towne center...they took only the center stone (i have the rest of the ring) and gave me 66% of the value of what it would cost were i to purchase that same diamond from them (so if the diamond were worth $1200, they would give me $800 toward the cost of a new ring from them)...the only caveat is that you have to spend at least twice what they give you...it's really not a bad deal if you think you're going to want another ring some day and don't want to use the one you've got
if you bought it from a jewelry store and you take it back to the same one, a lot of them will give you 100% of its purchase value toward a new ring, with the same requirement that you spend at least twice as much

Dan do not take it to a pawn shop. They are only interested in the gold and could care less about any gems on your ring. You will only be paid for the value of the gold and you give them the diamonds or whatever basically for free 12/11/2009 8:52:07 AM |

i'm sorry but any girl would be pissed as shit if she found out that you had proposed to another girl with the same ring.
i would take it to a small shop - like not a zales or jareds or something. they might be more willing to buy it off you.12/11/2009 9:50:19 AM |

I'm not giving this ring or the stones in it to anybody else. Hell, if I propose to anybody again before I'm 40, I give anybody here permission to beat the shit out of me.
I've got about 3800 dollars in it right now. Lemme see if I can find a pic.

2. Use proceeds towards new project car
3. Profit 12/11/2009 4:45:31 PM |

No project car with the proceeds from this ring.
I have to be able to rent a house here very soon. I'm hurting financially (probably because I went out and blew more than 70 bucks Saturday night, Ray), and have to have money for rent + security deposit. That's what the ring proceeds will go to. 12/11/2009 4:55:01 PM |

for real tho, did the store not take it back? i had a similar issue and they took it back no questions asked.
tho i had to sell one for a friend that was like like .3 carats and we couldnt get more than a few hundred for it. small ones can be gotten so cheap that its hard to sell them.

she wore it for about 4 months. And...to add to that...most of the rings that Knox makes (and they make all of their own) are made to order. Non-returnable.
You will not find that design anywhere else.
It's a quality stone. 1900 of that was for the diamond itself. I have the GIA card for it somewhere.

If you aren't dying for the money, your best option would be to just keep it. Then when the time comes back around to get married again, you could try and find a place to make a trade with for a new ring for your new fiance. Thats assuming that you wouldn't just want to use the same ring, which would be kinda odd. 12/11/2009 8:15:58 PM |

for a colorless flawless 1/2 carat it's about 3100 plus another 400 for the ring itself so thats not too far fetched, assuming it is flawless and colorless 1/10/2010 1:39:48 PM |
zxappeal All American 26824 Posts user info edit post |
Not flawless and colorless. I'd go lower in price. Color is H, Clarity is VS2. 0.50 carat round brilliant. Surrounded with 42 round brilliant cut stones, total weight 0.16 ct.

Eh...not a snowball's chance in hell on that one. She has a lot of growing up to do, and she quits shit too easily. I'm halfway content with not ever seeing her again.

Not a lot of money, unless the stone is brown.

i'm only quoting because i did alot of shopping for my fiance's ring which i posted in the rings thread
sounds like with that quality the diamond should be worth about 1000-1600 alone, add the ring, and the surrounding stones and i think 1500 would be a fair price for what you're asking, give or take a couple hundred
good luck man 1/10/2010 3:11:39 PM |

^are you comparing this ring with retail price? 1/10/2010 4:17:21 PM |
zxappeal All American 26824 Posts user info edit post |
Does it matter? If the ring falls in someone's price range, it's what they want, and it beats any deal they can get in a store or online for what they want...then the comparison is fairly irrelevant. I'm just trying to recoup a small part of my hefty loss. I know I can't even get close to what I paid for it; it's a somewhat custom piece, and a lot of the cost was due to its extremely low production numbers. Each one is made to order.
That said, if 1500 is too high for you, don't buy it. I really don't HAVE to sell it. 1/10/2010 5:05:41 PM |

if she was that bad then why would you have gave her the ring in the first place? bought the ring? thought about the ring? dated her for a long time?
you wouldn't have. obviously something went terribly wrong. somebody made a mistake and now you are cutting and runnning.
Well this type of thing is going to happen in every relationship at some point and it just seems like a drastic decision to make when you are mad.1/10/2010 6:21:16 PM |

Except that I wasn't the one to cut and run. I wanted to stay and work on it. She didn't. Hell, I've learned a LOT about her in the last year...and she broke the engagement about 10 months ago. I kept the ring thinking we could work through this...but she didn't really seem to want to work on it.
A lot of things seemed to change over the course of the relationship. It almost seemed like a bait and switch kind of thing. 1/10/2010 7:07:14 PM |
