So you have $3-4k and you need something that can tow a 21ft center console. What would you get and why? This won't be a primary vehicle but needs to be fairly reliable. 12/14/2009 1:25:44 PM |

I'm actually thinking about just keeping it. I don't use it much now, but I'll probably move myself again next time I get stationed somewhere else. I need to look up how much it will haul/tow and see if it'll be enough (I'm talking 13-14k pounds or more), or if I need to just sell it, buy a 1-ton diesel duallie when moving time comes, and be done with it.
but yeah, it'll tow any 21' boat without even breathing hard. 12/14/2009 3:57:00 PM |

mid 90's chevy 1500...you could even spring for the Z71 as well. 4wd can be had for that cheap. 12/14/2009 5:06:26 PM |

get an SUV so you can dodge the weight laws and shit. don't they still have the loophole?
[Edited on December 14, 2009 at 5:12 PM. Reason : actually, a 21' CC won't be overweight anyway so just find a half ton and be done] 12/14/2009 5:09:37 PM |

^^ That's why I suggested a Suburban. They seemed to commonly go for the same price or less than a Tahoe/Yukon back when I was looking for a SUV to tow with which surprised me. They're great haulers. I know a couple of guys that use them to tow their Wakesetter VLXs and another guy who uses one to tow a 26' Donzi. 12/14/2009 11:47:40 PM |

^^^I sold the Ram and need a beater. I like the Suburban idea, but I just bid on a 2 door Tahoe. Auction ends on Monday so we'll see. That's not my boat either.
I'd like a 5.9 Grand Cherokee...but not sure if it'd be up to it. I wonder if it'd be up to 80mph with said boat on HWY 70. 12/15/2009 8:44:49 AM |

The 5.9 GC will pull it no problem. It might not like stopping from 80 very much. They're pretty short wheelbase vehicles. Most of the decent ones I've seen were more in the $5500-$6k range. I think the regular V8 GC was rated for 6500 lbs iirc.
I bought a 2000 4Runner. It is rated for 5k pounds and my boat/trailer is in the 3500 lb range. It is fine for hauling my boat to the marina and back, but the 2 hour tow from Raleigh to the lake on 55MPH roads sucked. I think it would have been better at 70 MPH just because it was constantly shifting at every hill on the 55 MPH roads. I definitely would have to want to upgrade if I were doing a lot of distance towing like from Raleigh to the coast though.
The Tahoe will do the deal just fine too.

don't get a jeep to tow with...the brakes suck big time. i second a suburban. long wheebase and strong drivetrain for smooth cruising. 12/15/2009 10:50:34 AM |

It's been for sale for 6 months because you're asking way too much, it's a 305, doesn't have the factory rims and has those chrome doodads all over it.
Anyway, what's the new deal with weighted tags?

I haven't really tried to sell it that much since August. I don't mind selling it and it's not costing me anything to keep it. I've come down a good amount from my original price and I think the latest price is reasonable. Everything that is for sale is negotiable my friend. If i had known that you were going to bitch about the "chrome doodads" I would not have posted it. They don't exactly make a vehicle unreliable and from what I understood "reliable" is what you are looking for. I thought that what I had fit the criteria so I figured I would let you know about it. So, next time someone tries to help out, instead of trying to show your TWW toughness and your ability to do a KBB search, why don't you just say... "hey man, I think that would serve the purpose but the looks of the truck are not what I had in mind" or "I like it but you are a little out of the price range I am wanting to spend, how about $3375."
Just a thought... 12/16/2009 1:25:34 PM |
