Guy is asking $5,000:
Quote : | "Recent service includes front brakes, tires, timing belt and all idlers, water pump, exhaust gaskets, and spark plugs. It has never dropped a drip of anything on my concrete driveway.
5-speed manual transmission. A/C blows cold and heat works great. Includes trailer hitch and extra set of wheels and tires. Has fog lights and autodimming mirrors with compass." |
209k miles 15k miles on the transmission 500 miles on the timing belt, idlers, water pump, etc.
comes with stock wheels and steelies for winter. body is in great shape, haven't seen the interior yet.
Thoughts tdub? Seems like this would be a lot better than my Saturn up here for skiing and camping.12/15/2009 10:32:52 PM |

I don't know how reliable Subaru engines are when they get that kind of mileage thrown at them.
Plus I'd be concerned with the condition of the suspension. I'd imagine everything would be worn out except for springs. 12/16/2009 10:00:47 AM |

yeah, i don't want anything with that kind of mileage unless they're almost giving it away, or damn near everything has been replaced (i.e., my miata, and even then little stuff caused problems...headlight actuators, any accessories that got reused on the rebuild like the starter/alternator, etc). that doesn't strike me as a good deal at all-you can get a better vehicle for $5k.

or you can get a Cherokee or Trooper for dirt cheap, like half that price. Cherokees seem to run forever, and I think Troopers are pretty durable, too. 12/16/2009 11:14:05 AM |

Cherokees are good if you get a manual transmission. The automatics are pure shit. 12/16/2009 12:49:18 PM |

^u sure about that? the AW4 behind the 4.0 cherokees are pretty bulletproof. i've had several over the years and run them past 150K and didn't have a problem. i did change the fluid a couple times in each one though. there are tons of auto cherokees out there that are still doing fine, and i'm sure they all haven't been maintained. 12/16/2009 1:13:46 PM |

^I could be wrong and I've never owned one.
However I've known 4 people to own an automatic equipped Cherokee and the tranny shit the bed in 2 of them. Ironically for one of my friends who still has one his tranny is fine, but in his other vehicle (350Z) the transmission has already been replaced twice, lol. 12/16/2009 1:24:33 PM |

^^^^Those are all 10 year old vehicles, compared to a 4 year old vehicle.
I would think (could be totally wrong here) that 10 years of 100k would be comparable to 4 years of 200k miles.
I love Audi's, but I wouldn't ever buy a 10yr old one. Maintenance is expensive.
Good feedback though, guess I'll just keep on looking Not in any rush to buy anything, just saw this as maybe a potential deal. 12/16/2009 1:47:46 PM |

Not a bad deal at all IMO. Water pump, tires, timing belt and transmission are all mileage-dependent parts; it's good they're new. Have a compression test done and take a test drive. If no big problems pop up, it's good. 12/16/2009 1:50:47 PM |
