I heard through a friend that Buckhead Saloon is going to close. After being a good "young professionals" bar, they lost their luster and resorted to the 18+ college crowd, which drove off regulars. I stopped goign regularly about a year ago.

Apparently, the owners/management want to transform it into a Hip Hop Club. I read on my buddy's blog, who was formerly the general manager there, that it will close after new year's.

http://rtownlife.com/?p=372

^is a link to the article that i read about the news.

Any truth to this?

Also, did Blue Martini recently close as well?

A hip hop club is a great idea. We need more bars in that part of town where I can get stabbed in the neck with half a Heineken bottle.

I guess I'll just have to walk another 2 blocks and hang out at Tantra.

Haha, I'm kidding. No one goes there either.

lol, how long did that last like 30 seconds? I wish it was more like the Buckhead Saloon in Charlotte, that place is great.

It sucks the place is closing, but I never liked going there. I can talk really loud if I need to, but even that wasn't enough to carry a conversation in that place. Everyone who works there will need hearing aids soon. Despite not liking the place, I've never not had fun when we'd go.

Also, it's not "Buckheads", as the crowd who often goes there calls it.

Bye Buckhead

We went about 3 weeks ago on a Friday night and there were about 20 people there all night

I had fun, but no way they can be doing good with those numbers

I never really thought the place would fall apart like this though. I always figured it was packed on weekends, though I haven't been in over a year - I work weekends.

I think most bars are struggling in this economy. Rum Runners also is now closed on Sunday and Monday. Sunday used to be $2 night. As far as Buckheads, I had to go there with a friend and it was nothing special. I would rather go to the Flying Saucer to drink beer, or go to Rum Runners, or The Pour House, if I want to see live music. You can't go wrong with Buffalo Wild Wings either when you want to watch many sporting events at the same time.

Jillians (same building) was the same way the last night it was open before Buckhead took over. It's hard to keep a bar going because there are too many competing with each other.

^It's been open for about 3 years now. Jillians closed in 2006 right before my cousin got married. Buckhead took over not too long after that.

Someone at Buckhead called me earlier this week to tell me I won a VIP party. I told her I wouldn't be around this weekend and she offered to hold it -- finally I just told her I wasn't interested.

She sounded so defeated

Jillian's had a sweet arcade. We used to skip class in high school and go play pool/arcade games.

interesting. Several people "in the business" told me months ago that Buckhead was on its way out.

TIMES IS HARD YO.

and yeah, it doesn't help that the place absolutely sucks.

It was ok. That arcade credit card was a rip off. They didn't have enough classic games. It would have been nice to have a bubble hockey table too and more pinball machines.

Basically, they got out-shitty-bar'd by Ugly Monkey. Ugly Monkey is fucking terrible, but it's so ridiculously terrible it's kind of amazing and even hipsters will go there.

As far as most bars struggling, I don't think that's true. Business is down everywhere, yes, but the places that adequately fill their niche in the market are still doing good business on a weekly basis.

^ hahaha. i forgot about that place. i haven't been in forever but yea, i agree. buckhead = terrible. ugly monkey = so ridiculously terrible that it is sometimes amazing.

i mean buckhead can't compete with cage dancing and jack daniels slushies and that jumbo shot wheel they have and bar tenders pouring shots in to slutty girls mouths and slutty girls dancing/falling off the bar. plus, ugly monkey doesn't have a shitty cover band playing.

Actually, in down times bars usually do fine b/c some people are more inclined to drink.

i went to one of those vip party things. they have bracelets so that those in the party get $1 beers and $2 well drinks. the birthday person gets a red cup and gets free drinks of all they want until midnight.

even that wasn't enticing enough for me to go again.

I've done a few VIP parties there as well. This last one, my friend had the most people there and because of that won a free Wii. Apparently she's been having some trouble getting them to cough it up though.

I work there.

We arent going under and arent going to close after the 31st.

We actually have a ton of things planned after the holidays and business has been really booming on Fridays.

This blog by Chuck isnt truthful at all and I know Chuck realllllly well..He is my realtor and former manager at Buckhead.

we arent going anywhere

why would we be closing when we have a New Years party planned on the 1st?

PS for New years the tickets from me are $10 normally $30 or I can get you open bar all night for $50

but no, we arent going under.

The problem is that it was just another bar. Places like that open and then everyone tries it out because it is the new bar in town. Then once it has been around for a little while people quit going because they go back to their old favorite place, or the new bar in town. At that point places like Buckhead close and everyone goes back because that building becomes the next new bar in town.

after all the poor service I have gotten there, I will not be going back there

there have been a couple of cool people working there, but the doucebags that think they are god's gift really are annoying

there was a guy working the side bar that served everyone around me for literally 15 minutes (new people coming up and getting served) and when he finally came down and tried to served another dude that had come up, I told him that I had been waiting while he was serving all these other guys and he flipped. He said I wasn't getting anything and he radioed the other bars not to serve me. So I rounded up the 20 people I had gotten to go there that night, and we left- I haven't been back since. But that is the kind of service I did get when I went 75% of the time
