i saw this at work earlier today. i read that the top 30-40 floors were only really large enough to be used for storage. they called it the world's highest warehouse.

and also the story mentioned having to pump water 150 floors into the air every time a toilet is flushed.

lol

really? do you have any idea how long it takes to build a large shopping center? much less a building half a mile tall? 3 years is FAST.

I am surprised it cost just $1.5 billion. Would have cost at least triple of that in the US or Europe.

BTW, I am really curious about the Armani Apartments and the Armani Hotel inside it. I would love to see pics of the interiors and furnishings.

Last time I inquired (3 years ago, just when construction started), a studio cost some $550,000.

Oh, and the apartments (1,000+) all sold out within 48 hours of going on sale 3 years ago

Just checked out wikipedia.

The apartments sold out in 8 hours, not 48 hours.

And the price of the apartments is around $3,500/sq ft, which means a 2-bed 1,000 sq ft apartment will run you $3.5 million.

There are 57 elevators, and they go at 33 ft/sec.

At the top, temperatures will be 11 F less than at the base!

It will hold 25,000 people at any given time.

imagine the pumps and innovation required to send concrete that high into the air in those temperatures.

maintaining the prescribed PSI mustve been a bitch.

In an article I just read, it says it take 6 months to clean the windows from top to bottom. What a shitty and scary job that must be. I am surprised they did not try to engineer some type of automatic cleaning system.

Kilometer tower coming up!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mile-High_Tower

I met someone yesterday and he works as the office manager for the "Warren Buffet of Saudi Arabia". He told me the exact location of the land which the prince has purchased, the size and cost of the land, and that the project is on and it will be a kilometer high.

no, but its pretty sweet...hot as fuck when i was there...around 115...but the hotel we had was amazing! 4 bedroom, 4.5 bath...for like 300 bucks a night...amazing! and only a 4 star!

the mall of dubai at the base of it is pretty sweet too...lots and lots and lots of stores...and an ice skating rink, and giant aquarium and it has its own gold souk in it...i enjoyed it!

Going there in a few days.

World's tallest structure, next to the world's largest mall (1,200 stores) with the largest aquarium front panel inside the mall, and one of the world's largest fountains outside the mall.

Don't care about the mall, but really excited about the observation deck on the building, the aquarium, and the fountain.

World's largest mall
World's longest fountain
