So I just heard a horror story from my wife's coworker flying out of Canada back to the USA. You had to get there 4 hours early, they got sniffed by dogs, purses were dumped out, and they would allow no carry on's larger than a purse. She could be a liar, I dont know...

So, thats obviously an international flight bound to the USA. But I am going on a ski trip in a month in the USA, and will need to do some more planning if this is the case.

Domestic was no different than it's been since 9/11.

I flew SFO->ATL->RDU on Sunday... not a problem at all. You should be fine.

Domestic flights you shouldn't have that big of an issue with. International on the other hand... arrive early and be prepared to put on a happy face while you grin and bear it.

Women tend to exaggerate EVERYTHING for no reason. I think they get bored and it gives them a better story to tell. They probably just looked through her purse, but in her mind, they "OMG dumped out my purse and it took forever!"

I flew domestic on the 24th and it was alright but when flying back on the 29th the lady patting me down got pretty friendly when on my thighs and I had to let them scan the underwire in my bra.

I also watched them flatten and then roll up a little girl's teddy bear to "make sure nothing was hiding in mr. teddy".

Yup

Seemed like even less security

Our group didn't even have to take our shoes off

Which was nice because I had a bomb in them

Flew back from Madrid on New Years Day. They had the normal first round of security, then sectioned off about 6 gates for the flights bound for US and made passengers pass through another inspection. I was frisked (not grabbing my crotch or anything though), then entire contents of my carry-on were inspected. Checked every pocket, looked in boxes, turned on ipod/digital camera, etc. Wasn't too bad though... took maybe an hour to get through the second line, but at least they were being pretty thorough instead of just wasting our time with another cursory check.

Had to go back through security again after going through customs in Boston, and that was just as it has been for the past 8 years.

I just flew to Cairo, Egypt yesterday. RDU -> JFK -> CAI (Cairo)

I went through security in RDU and JFK because I had to switch terminals. I flew on Egypt Air from JFK and American Eagle from RDU. Security was exactly as its always been. walk up, take your shoes, belt, jacket off. Remove your laptop, walk through. Get a pat down because I triggered the metal detectors (metal in my back).

I also had 1 personal item (book bag for my laptop) and 1 carry on (my suitcase since I didn't check any bags)

On my way back I'm flying CAI -> JFK -> RDU so we'll see what happens there although Egypt isn't listed as one of the countries that require extra precautions since they aren't sponsors of terrorism. Not to mention Egypt has always had more security for as long as I've been alive than TSA has right now. At least more check points and pat downs none of that 'take your shoes off' bullshit though.

Thats been standard procedure in any country with flights bound for the US. For some reason everyone in the world has to cater to TSA's demands.

When I was a kid flying out of Abu Dhabi, their airport security ripped my brothers stuffed monkey's arms, legs, head off as part of their search...and then they gave it back to him

flew from rdu to philly on 12/23 and returned on 12/30; there was no difference in security or the time it took to get to the gate. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Hey Duke, I saw several shots of EA-6Bs in your photo gallery, are you with one of the squadrons at MCAS Cherry Point (figured you had to be if you are flying out of EWN)?

It's only a matter of time before some fat guy with a bad case of swamp ass on an airplane gets charged with domestic terrorism.
