Anybody into it, tried it, or seen it done?
Is this real?

They send you 50,000 pages (700+ books) for $77, their whole collection. List of some of the books: http://www.academyofsorcery.com/listofbooks.htm
It just makes you wonder if that stuff really works or not.
Well, real magic exists, so perhaps it does. I would like to get into it, but I don't want to make pacts with the devil, as that's what's apparently you need to do in order to do real magic.
Post all direct and indirect experiences with [real] magic ITT, as I am curious to know just how widespread it is, as >95% of the 'magicians' out there are just tricksters/illusionists. 1/11/2010 8:46:25 PM |

some nepalese buddhist monks can increase/decrease their core body temperature by SEVERAL degrees in just minutes by meditating (in the guinness book). if i told you some humans could do that, you would say that's not possible. that's just one example (of humans being able to do supernatural things).

Changing your body temperature is not magic. That’s training. They’ve showed a Navy Seal or something like that on TV, in a huge ice tank do this. Anyone can learn to modulate their body temperature if they wanted (as far as amazing monk feats go, this is actually one of the easier ones to learn).
You’re a god-damned idiot (no pun intended) for remotely thinking that stuff like “divination,” spells, magic words, or anything like that is real. And i’m actually a bit surprised you’re so gullible regarding this, considering some of your past threads.
It’s so unbelievable that I believe you have an ulterior motive for posting this, that is beyond a genuine belief in magic.
It would be great if magic were real, absolutely amazing. And i don’t care if you wish to pursue a “study” in magic. But you’re only giving yourself false hope— or false faith, by believing that. Your desire (if real… and i’m not convinced it is) to believe in magic is the same thing that drives some religious fanatics to cling to their religions.1/11/2010 9:50:21 PM |

If you can believe in water into wine or saints doing miracles or turning a rod into snakes or an invisible metaphysical version of yourself that records all the data in your brain, I don't see what is so far fetched about believing in the rest of magic. I went to a lot of weddings last year, and for a couple of them I saw the clergy get pretty seriously into divine magic by casting enchantments on the rings while holding them in the air, shaking them in a fist, while saying ritualistic words. 1/11/2010 10:29:23 PM |

I don't deny the existence of magic
it strikes me as somewhat closed-minded to assume that there are no supernatural phenomena, and that all events have explanations which are in accordance with the laws of physics
that's just faith in science, really
I'm sort of an agnostic about magic, ghosts, etc. 1/11/2010 11:40:22 PM |

You 2 need to learn to read. Well, one of you is a moron, so it fits.
This is what I said:
that's just one example (of humans being able to do supernatural things). which followed from something I said before it: humans can do amazing things, that science can't explain.
So I didn't say it was magic, just that there are a lot of things that some humans can do (and some non-human phenomenon as well) that can't be explained by our science.
Quote : | "You’re a god-damned idiot (no pun intended) for remotely thinking that stuff like “divination,” spells, magic words, or anything like that is real. And i’m actually a bit surprised you’re so gullible regarding this, considering some of your past threads." |
I am quite surprised that you would stoop low to cursing me here. You are such a saint in TSB. Anyway, again, HOW DO YOU KNOW IT IS NOT REAL? Yes, most likely not real, but there is enough anecdotal evidence from the past couple of thousand years to doubt that such things are bogus.
So, how does that website make money? They give a 90 day money back guarantee. If everybody who buys stuff from there ends up returning it, how do they make money?

I doubt you're going to get many worthwhile responses here. I am very on the edge about stuff like this. I definitely think if you're going to acknowledge the existance if any omnipotent being, than it's not a far stretch at all to believe in supernatural phenomena. Of course the cool thing now for many college students is, is to vehemently deny even the possibility that God exists, so it naturally follows that you're going to get made fun of for this.
I think the big thing is that things that may appear to be magical to us now may be explained by scientific reasoning. I am sure the fact that we can communicate at the speed of light with someone 5000 miles away on a different continent would seem like magic to someone 200 years ago, as would the ability to use a ray of light to reshape an eyeball and restore someone's sight. Of course we know this is just science. Maybe 1,000 years from now, ghosts will be able to be explained as some kind of not yet quantified energy source, and even reproduced in a lab.... who knows.
Or perhaps maybe the mind has the power to alter physical reality..... maybe other forms of energy that we can't yet quantify exist. There are SO many stories out there about some kind of "supernatural" or "magical" phenomena, that I can just not imagine every single one of them being fabricated. I was reading about that one experiment with the water crystals being analyzed based on external emotional stimuli..... is this fake? Maybe, but if it's not, then wow. (If you are unfamiliar here is a quick synopsis: http://www.life-enthusiast.com/twilight/research_emoto.htm.
I hope you get some decent replies, but like I said most people are just too arrogant and feel too self-important to believe there could be anything out there beyond the laws that they think the universe plays by. 1/12/2010 5:30:06 AM |

There are plenty of weird things a human body / mind can do that can't be easily explained. If you want to call it magic, so be it. Challenge: any actual proof of anyone doing anything supernatural ever. Difficulty: the Bible isn't actual proof.
You want proof magic doesn't exist? http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/1m-challenge.html
Quote : | "At JREF, we offer a one-million-dollar prize to anyone who can show, under proper observing conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event. The JREF does not involve itself in the testing procedure, other than helping to design the protocol and approving the conditions under which a test will take place. All tests are designed with the participation and approval of the applicant. In most cases, the applicant will be asked to perform a relatively simple preliminary test of the claim, which if successful, will be followed by the formal test. Preliminary tests are usually conducted by associates of the JREF at the site where the applicant lives. Upon success in the preliminary testing process, the "applicant" becomes a "claimant."
To date, no one has passed the preliminary tests." |
If anyone on this planet could pass this test, they would have already. There's absolutely no reason not to use your magic and win a million bucks. "I'm not greedy" is a cop-out: there are plenty of charities and poor people wizards could donate the money to. Hell, the temperature changing monks don't even take the challenge because even they know it's not supernatural.
