Sr. defender Olukorede Aiyegbusi was the first player from NC State drafted today. He went in the 2nd round as the 20th overall pick to the Kansas City Wizards. 1/14/2010 4:46:50 PM |

^Yes and so does MLB, but no one cares since only college basketball and football are watched by the masses. 1/14/2010 7:01:49 PM |

the MLS draft is almost pointless though, only the top 5 or so players get drafter with a contract and the rest still have to try out

the MLS needs to abandon the draft process that is used in the other major sports, and they should switch to the model used in other countries, where a player is scouted and plays in the development programs until they are ready to be brought up to the majors. if the MLS wants to compete with foreign leagues, they simply cannot do so with the college system, as players will graduate at 22 years of age, and be under-developed for international competition at too late of an age.
simply put, the MLS needs the same relegation system used in europe with tiered leagues. 1/14/2010 7:25:37 PM |

its hard enough already for teams to make money, i can't see any of them being okay with relegation 1/14/2010 7:27:08 PM |

i would like to see the MLS annex the USL and have a second flight league, honestly. 1/14/2010 7:38:16 PM |

i think the mls is on to something with their 5 minute timeouts during a teams pick. 1/14/2010 8:02:47 PM |
