I'm looking for somewhere to live in August with hardwood at least in the living area. I'm open to an apartment, townhome or house as long as it's affordable. I want to live somewhere safe that's not in the ghetto, but since cost is my main concern I don't mind an older place. As long as the power bill isn't outrageous, i'm interested! Thoughts?!?! 1/17/2010 3:20:17 PM |

I'm pretty sure that some of the units in The Links (off Tryon Road) have hardwood floors. 1/17/2010 3:33:49 PM |

Ok. I know about the Links and I do like it there. Laminate would be fine and carpet in the bedrooms is ok (probably preferred). 1/17/2010 4:01:54 PM |

i live there, it has the hardwood, probably affordable. Power bill isn't bad, but the walls are pretty thin, i can hear my neighbor snore. If you have a dog its perfect. 1/17/2010 7:27:28 PM |

Cameron Court, Grosvenor Gardens, Shelton Arms, Boylan Apts.
All four complexes are on (or nearly on in Shelton Arms' case) Hillsborough, across from St. Mary's. Near downtown but not in the ghetto, all four are older complexes, built in the 30's/40's, with (AFAIK) original hardwoods and big windows. 1/17/2010 9:09:27 PM |

A dog's nails can fuck up the hardwoods.

How much does a 1 and/or 2 bedroom go for at Cameron or Shelton?

When I was looking at apartments it was something like $600 for a 1br at Cameron Court. However, that was in 2004, so prices are likely to have gone up since then.
Now that I think about it, the Raleigh Apts. probably also have hardwoods. They are on Clark Avenue in between Broughton HS and Cameron Village. 1/18/2010 12:48:12 AM |

no kidding man. our dogs ruined the hardwoods at our last house, and by the time we leave this one, the same thing will happen.
Given the choice, I'd rather get rid of the dogs and have nice hardwoods, but I will never win that battle. 1/18/2010 9:08:14 AM |

some gorman crossings townhomes have hardwood downstairs (living room/dining room) and carpet upstairs (bedrooms) with linoleum for the kitchen and bathrooms. They take animals.
But they probably aren't as 'nice' as you'd like

The Caraleigh Mills website was confusing...looked like they were just for purchase and not for rent?!? I'll probably do a year lease since they're cheaper. Lol, I've lived at Gorman and while I hated it then, I have considered a unit there with hardwood. Dogs may ruin hardwood, but cats ruin carpet 1/18/2010 5:56:36 PM |

all the apartments in that complex that I've been in all have hardwood.
it's not too expensive and you get a lot of room, but I don't remember if they have a/c or not

But seriously, I do need an apartment. Having a screened porch would be nice, but finding everything you want in the right price range seems impossible 1/20/2010 6:38:30 PM |

So hardwood means this much to some people?
This is interesting. 1/20/2010 9:13:55 PM |

Well, while I do think hardwood is nicer than carpet, laminate would work for me. I think for me and my kitties, anything non-carpet would be easier to clean. Tile in the common areas would work too. 1/21/2010 10:01:16 PM |
