so I got stuck in an intersection about a month ago and the redlight camera system went off... but I haven't seen anything in the mail yet.... how long do these tickets normally take to arrive? is there an internal review process to determine if the light was run or not?

just pay it off, if you get one

it doesnt give you points

and they are hard to fight and you waste money trying to fight them

yeh, I'm thinking that if I don't get one it's because:

- couldn't read the plate
- couldn't see the plate (there was a car coming up behind me... they may have set off the cameras...)
- internal review process showed I didn't run the light, just got stuck in the intersection... which technically may still be illegal just not enforced.

You'll probably still get one.

Anyway, I got two of these fuckers back when I was still in NC and never paid them. Nothing ever happened.

if you dont pay they double the fee and eventually send it to collections

if you move they dont try and track you down they just send it to collections

i got one in Raleigh the week after Christmas and it showed up about 10 days later.

Cary, who knows. I've heard rumors they aren't even monitoring theirs anymore.

Oh after a month you should be clear.

Doubtful I got a bench warrant. It's a civil issue, not a criminal one. Worst that can happen is that it fucks up your credit, which it never did.

in Cary... yes, yes they would waste money to have an efficient system to send out redlight camera tickets.

this would be great - I've heard of other cities not monitoring them but leaving them in place as a traffic control device

IIRC it took about 20 days or so for my husband to get his when he did back in 2006/07 (i can't remember what year). It actually went to his dad b/c he was the owner on the truck as we hadn't done the title transfer yet.

Anywho...I know to make sure it applied to my husband's versus his dad's license (b/c it will affect insurance...as ours just FINALLY found it in the the system and we were hit w/ a higher premium--grrrrrr) we had to send something to them saying Justin was driving w/ his info, and an internal review process fixed it. I imagine there's something similar for contesting.

SO...it's worth it to contest for insurance.

^yeah, there's 2 on Six Forks still right by North Hills

I try not to run lights and i never creep into intersection (you could get a ticket for blocking an intersection even if you got stuck there) so hopefully it won't be an issue for me

Incorrect, your rates probably went up for something else. They intentionally have it not affect insurance so people are less likely to protest/fight the charge.

Hopefully these cameras will all disappear soon. These cameras do nothing to prevent traffic collisions and most of the revenue from these devices goes to the manufacturer who sells and sets them up, not the local government.

i dont mind the cameras

i mind that they turn down the yellow light times so much . youll be approaching one thinking you made it by a mile, them BAM, red light, camera flash, $50 down the drain fuckers.

i don't know that they do this at all of the camera intersections, but i know they do it at north hills cause i timed them right after getting popped.

i'm guessing all this stuff is illegal right?

I've heard (and I don't know if this is true or not) that camera tickets are not valid because they aren't issued by an officer. They count on people just paying them off without attempting to fight them or anything, and if you just go the DA they will immediately throw it out. Again, I don't know if this is true or not.

its not a "moving violation" by a camera so no license points or insurance points

but if you get one by a cop you can get both

^ you dont see the da for a camera ticket

I always thought that they didn't put points on your license because there's no way of knowing who was actually driving the car. This doesn't dissuade them from their money grab though. I guess if someone else drives your car and runs a red light it's still your fault for loaning your car to someone that drove irresponsibly... or something.

Good old "net proceeds". Which is only about 20%

I personally think Raleigh should add some of these cameras around the city. On the way to school this morn I saw at least $150 the city could have made

That part is true. The DA isn't involved though. If you don't pay, they may or may not take it to collections. And then they may or may not put it on your credit.

ive been photographed before, usually not really "running" a red light. either slightly passed the line or almost ran it and took a quick right, never gotten a ticket though. i think the idea is that they take a series of pictures so maybe they just deduce who definitely fucked up based on how far they got. so if you were stuck in an intersection they would know by the sequence? just my 2c.

i'm bringing this back because i just got a ticket in the mail last week for an offense on 4/16 (so my guess is, roughly 2 week turnaround before you receive it)

i feel that i should dispute the ticket though. i was making a left turn at an intersection that gives the turn lane a green arrow.

in the pictures provided on the ticket, you clearly see my car behind the line during red, and in the intersection during solid green. yet i'm getting a ticket for running a red light. why? because apparently, the light cycle goes from green arrow, to yellow arrow, to the briefest of solid red (we're talking less than a second here) before going to solid green for all traffic.

i fully admit that i turned on the yellow arrow because i knew that after the yellow arrow comes the solid green. however, this is obviously no longer the case - it goes solid red for all traffic before going solid green.

does anyone know when that changed? also, what's the chances that Cary PD is gonna forgive this if i call and dispute?

$50 is $50 dawg.

^^i never have success arguing crap like that. I wish you the best of luck in it, and if you have the time, it is worth disputing (and then posting on any other public forum what happened to set precedent), but I would still plan on having to pay that ticket... it is like roll/turning right on "red" when you know for a fact it is about to give you the green right arrow on red

chances are with towns across the country hurting for money, there's not much of a chance it'll be dropped or thrown out. of course, it is always worth a shot and YMMV; like you said $50 is $50.

wdprice3 if your front axle was past the stop bar before it turned red (stopped in traffic or not) that is not running a red light as you are considered in the intersection. probably why you didn't get one, but maybe the guy after you.

in the area of charlotte I live they have cameras up that are inactive and turned off. just there to make you think if you run the light you'll get a ticket.

I threw one away and then they sent a bill for $100.

I am not sure what enforcement they can take if you just do not pay, its not a criminal citation only civil. Maybe a registration hold? If that's the case I will just pay it later.

^the ticket says if it goes unpaid for 30days, there will be another $50 fine

also, is this going on my license as running a red light? or is it just a "pay this fine and you're done" thing?

Quote :

because i always check the 4 corners of the intersection for red light cameras before i breeze through the intersection
