I have a 99 Ford Explorer that I managed to get the airbags to deploy in.
The car can't be worth more than a few hundred bucks, maybe $1k at this point. Is it worth getting airbags installed again? It runs great and I would like to keep it around. I still use it as my daily driver - though I don't think I can get it to pass inspection without airbags (not sure what the rule is).
If I could get it done for maybe $500 bucks I would consider it, but from what I see that may only get me one airbag and not both driver-side and passenger 2/8/2010 10:41:43 AM |

try a junkyard. airbags are not that hard to replace, but you do need to make sure you disconnect the battery first.
you might also need some other parts if they bags deployed. 2/8/2010 10:53:09 AM |

I guess I should also mention that I would like to avoid actually doing any of the work myself as I would have no clue what to do 2/8/2010 12:31:52 PM |

if your bags deployed, you'll need the airbag controller as well. not worth it IMO. air bags arent cheap. and maybe the sensors if the car was hit.

Selling airbags to people is easy and cheap, but actually shipping them legally is another matter. I can sell them for $10 each but if it costs me ten times that to ship them legally as hazardous then fuck it... something you should consider when looking on ebay. 2/8/2010 9:05:03 PM |
