Who, When, Where, and What made it special?

Steven Marley unplugged at Lincoln last year was awesome, he signed a cd for me on-stage during the middle of the set.

Metallica in 1998- makes the list because it was the first time I saw topless women in public, the set was good too.

Oddly enough, a Maroon 5 concert was one of the best. I got dragged there by my gf at the time and some other girls and another guy or two. Their music pretty much sucks, but MAN there were some hotass women running around that place at an ungodly ratio.

Smashing Pumpkins in 2007 at the Orange Peel. 3 hours of getting to see a band I thought I would never see live perform songs from pretty much every album they ever recorded. Sure it wasn't peak-SP, but for me it was great.

Beloved's farewell show in 2004.

BTBAM Silent Circus CD release show in 2003. Don't think I have ever seen more crowd energy at any show I've been to since. One of my favorite local bands on the cusp of blowing up nationally/internationally. Also, their first two albums are my two favorites and that night consisted of nothing but songs off of those two albums.

Dillinger Escape Plan at The Brewery 2009. Having seen this band multiple times before stretching back to 2002ish in venues much MUCH bigger than this, I first thought it was a mistake when they released 4 "small venue" shows on the east coast, one being at the Brewery. If BTBAM's crowd energy was the best i've ever seen, Dillinger's on-stage energy at this show was the best i've ever seen. Another night of a band playing songs from nearly every EP, album, cover album etc. that they have ever put out. On top of this, this is a band that is normally playing big festivals or venues holding 1000+ people on a regular basis, playing a 300 person venue off hillsborough street.

HM: mewithoutYou, Sunny Day Real Estate(reunion tour), the get up kids(reunion tour)

Weezer at Club Zone in 1996

They've never been even in my top ten favorite bands, but that show was amazing. It was a small venue which always makes any show better, and it was after a period of not touring for a while, so the band and crowd fed off each other and it was just crazy awesome. My friends and I were also front and center right up by the stage.

Tool at The Ritz in 1996
I think this was their tour to support Aenima. Maynard came out wearing a big cloth diaper and nothing else. Again, I was down near the front, and in a relatively small venue. This was also the first time I saw Tool, and they played pretty much all of my favorite songs, including most of Opiate, which is my favorite Tool CD.. and which they never play anymore.

Helmet + Primus in 1995 or maybe 1994.

Just fucking crazy. I left that one with my face covered in blood from getting an elbow to the forehead, splitting open where my eyebrow was. Helmet was the opener, but they stole the show. They are still one of my favorite bands to this day.

2 Skinnee J's -- All 6 times I've seen them. They are just non-stop adulterated fun.

Bonnaroo 2005: Widespread Panic, DMB, Trey Anastasio, The Allman Brothers, Jack Johnson, Alison Krauss, Black Crowes, Govt Mule, Yonder Mtn string band, Joss Stone, Jurassic 5, OAR, Drive by truckers etc...

Steamboat Springs Music Fest 2005 & 2006: 6 days, 40 shows and 5 mountains for skiing - mostly texas country music. Finally got to see all my favorite bands lives since very few of them play in NC. Cross Canadian Ragweed is the only one who plays here every year.

Ever only been to 2 concerts, and they were smashing.

DJ Tiesto, July 2006, Antalya, Turkey.

DJ Tiesto, December 2007, Mauritius.
We didn't know he was playing. On the way to our hotel from the airport, we saw posters by the roadside saying his concert was the next day! So, we got to the hotel and went out and grabbed a couple of tickets. The concert was the night of my wife's birthday, and 2 days before our wedding!

Both times we left around 4 am and he was still playing.

Bloodhound Gang, Tremont, Nov '00
Giant Pac-Man on stage during "Mope," various stupid human tricks to make for one very entertaining show.

1. Dethklok and Mastadon at the HoB in Myrtle Beach this past November. Room filled with pure energy, and that pit was a wonder to watch.

2. Motley Crue last summer at Walnut Creek. It was awesome to see a true 80's theatrical stage show.

3. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones at City Stages - Birmingham in like, 97. That was the first time that i truly realized what a brilliant musician was.

4. Drive-By Truckers at Lincoln Theater this past Friday. Packed house with a band that just absolutely loves what they do, and have fun doing it.

Coldplay - Walnut Creek in 2005, their X&Y tour. I was front row, and the wife and I had just gotten engaged.

U2 - Carter-Finley - Oct. 2009 - insane visual, plus I went to school here

Linkin Park & lostprophets - Cardiff, Wales in Nov. 2003. Front row, and Linkin only played that first full-length album. This place was insane, and the audio was amazing.

Copeland - Brewery - 2009: their last show ever in Raleigh, played a cover of 'Tonight, Tonight' that blew my mind

Common - Be Tour - Tabernacle, Atlanta - good friends, great beats, intimate setting...last of the concerts I saw with my core group of b-school friends

Aerosmith - Get a Grip Tour - Charlotte 1994 - it was my first concert in High School away from the boro

The Pixies - Doolittle's 20th Anniversary Tour - D.A.R Constitution Hall, Washington DC 2009 - getting to hear one of my top 5 albums played in its entirety by the full band. two awesome encores and the best of the b-sides before the album. just awesome all around

Fleetwood Mac- Unleashed Tour Summer 2009 - Philips Arena Atlanta - went with a friend shortly after coming home from seeing my gma after she was diagnosed with degenerative heart disease. i broke down during "landslide," and that's when i found out the friend had feelings for me. very sweet moment

Arctic Monkeys would have made the list if they weren't drunk and mailing it in. They sounded awesome live

tool in greensboro a couple of years ago. greensboro was not my favorite place but it was better than the WV show. it was my 2nd of 3 times seeing them. i am not religious nor spiritual but that was the closest thing i've ever had to a spiritual experience. we were 3rd row center. they sound just as good live as they do on disc, which a lot of artists can't do.

Rage Against the Machine and Wu-Tang in Charlotte. Nothing else even comes close. My 2 favorite groups in the same show.

Although TOOL at Walnut Creek was pretty good too.

my most memorable was a pre-christmas show at the lincoln theater a few years back with three artists no one really had a clue about. so few people there but they all put on a great show and you could see how the artists really are, not playing up for 10k people in an arena.

The worst was the counting crows in va. beach. It wasn't them 100%, more the sound guy throwing the eq way off in between acts.

Prince - Walnut Creek, I think it was in '97, dude tore it up

Roots - outdoors in Philly in '04 at Penn, they basically improvised the whole time, best concert I'd seen them do

Smoking Grooves tour in '97 at Walnut Creek - outkast, roots, cypress hill, george clinton, and eyrkah badu. Roots and outkast were sick, and erykah badu was amazing as well.

And may I say, glad to see all the props for The Roots in this thread. Have loved every show I've seen of their's. And I have no idea how Black Thought keeps his intensity up for an entire show, dude must burn about 10,000 calories just with his rapping.

Summersault 2000 in Vancouver
Deftones (and Maynard came out to do Passenger) + Foo Fighters + Smashing Pumpkins
(and some other less important bands, our lady peace, finger eleven...)

me and 2 of my best friends held on to the rail in front of the main stage all day.

Chili peppers w/ snoop, early 2000's. Flea went out in the crowd while snoop was playing to hit on women...They all rejected him, so midway through their set, he got on the mic and called em out. It was also pouring rain most of the show and everyone parted to made an impromptu mud slide down the center of the lawn

incubus, ~5 years ago. Just an all around great show

allman bros 3-4 years ago. love the allman bros

system of a down/disturbed at ozzfest, a few years ago. both bands played w/ so much energy, I was exhausted after it was over.

godsmack, last year. Totally stole the show @ crue fest.

The Roots Spring of 99 (maybe '00?) @ The Ritz then again their free show at Duke Spring '02

Ani Difranco @ Wolf Trap 2004--the chirping of crickets + Ani back on stage solo after years of touring w/ her band? yes please!

X-Fest in 2000...Cowboy Mouth, 2 Skinnee J's (Rabbit suit!), Eve 6, Days of the New, & SR-71. I'll always remember that show as my first time crowd surfing

Tori Amos @ Walnut Creek in '98...I met her backstage by the gate after the show. She was signing autographs. My friend got her autograph, and she was about to sign mine when her manager pulled her away. We locked eyes (fireworks went off) and she said, "So sorry, dear..." *swoooooooon* lol

Andrew Bird @ Carolina Theatre 2007...I had 2nd row seats, almost center, and was pretty much jaw dropped the whole time.

I've always enjoyed the Barenaked Ladies when I've seen them. REM was awesome, Dave Matthews Band in the early years was awesome, Live was awesome, Cake was awesome, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan way back in the day were awesome. Third Eye Blind was surprisingly good.

I don't remember dates and shit because I'm bad about that stuff. Most of those concerts were at Walnut Creek or at whatever that venue down in the warehouse district is called.

Bad Brains reunion show at Ziggy's in 99. I was front row maybe 5' from HR the whole show. Afterward Dr. Know gave me one of his picks.

Squatweiler at 533 Uprisings in 99. When they released New Motherstamper. It was insane, maybe only 50-100 people there but an unreal show.

MMBT at Warped Tour in Charlotte in 2000 or 2001. I'm not their biggest fan but man they can put on a great show.

Every time I've ever seen Stretch Arm Strong has been incredible.

Black Eyed Peas concert with Ludacris and LMFAO this past Friday night (Feb. 19th, 2010). LMFAO was okay, Ludacris is awesome as hell, and the BEP had a pretty damn fun performance too... I liked how Will-I-Am took people's BBM and worked them in as lyrics for his freestyle. He is a helluva man, imo. It was a good night indeed.

I've actually only been to 3 concerts. Each were very different.

Rolling Stones - It was great to hear some good music and seeing McJagger perform. I was right there at the stage with him.

Transiberian Orchestra. It was awesome. Took the inlaws with me to go see it. I really enjoyed the show/performance.

BEP concert - It was a blast. It pumped me up and I was definitely one of those out of his seat, jumping around and just jamming to the music. Ludacris was just badass and I enjoyed him on stage as well.

I'd LOVE to go to more concerts, it's just that I'd rather spend that money on other things, so I know that I do miss out on some bad-ass concerts. As long as I have a good time, I really don't care.
