Quote : | "According to Japan’s Best Car magazine, it appears that the Honda CR-Z is not the only hybrid sports car from the Japanese manufacturer. Best Car says that the manufacturer is working on a new hybrid sports car that will carry a 2.5 or a 3.0-liter petrol engine as well as an electric motor capable to act as a generator during braking or coasting and to capture kinetic energy that recharges the hydride battery pack. As you may know already, Nissan is will also transform its next-generation GT-R into a hybrid sports car with over 600 hp. Regarding the next sports car from Honda this might actually be the new NSX, which was canceled and the ressurected as a racing car dubbed HSV-010 GT!" |

wat
And for the time being, I'm not excited about the idea of a hybrid sports car. I'm not a fan of heavy cars and hybrid and lightness seem to be mutually exclusive.
And it'll be crap of Honda comes out with a new front engined sports car and calls it the NSX. It should have a different name.2/12/2010 1:44:33 PM |

I heard a rumor that Honda is coming out with a small light sports car soon! Figure less than 2600lbs, 195hp, and a price tag around $20k!
Here's a link to an article comparing the prototype to a 2010 Civic Si.

^not a fair comparison. the prototype has a few stickers that are proven to give significant performance gains. 2/23/2010 11:52:16 AM |

btw, that's not your normal JDM model.. that's the one with Mugen accessories. still no extra power though!
and the C&D dude in the 2nd video basically trashed the car... almost saying "WTF is the point of this car?".

^I'm also saying, wtf is the point of the car? I mean, it could have been executed much, much better... however, I'll reserve my full and complete opinion on the car until after driving reviews are posted. But so far, it's underpowered and overweight. 150+hp and <2800lbs would have made for a nice, peppy sports car imo. 4/18/2010 4:50:34 AM |

agreed.
instead of the 1.5 litre Fit engine, they could have at least taken the 1.8 litre engine from the Civic.
i mean, really... wtf have they made? 4/18/2010 5:28:40 AM |

I wonder how well the CR-Z even handles? Struts in the front, torsion beam axle in the back, and the engine out in front of the front axle...awesome. 4/19/2010 11:44:51 AM |

Two new reviews of the CR-Z from Car & Driver and USA Today:
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/car/10q2/2011_honda_cr-z_hybrid-first_drive_review
http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/reviews/healey/2010-06-18-honda-cr-z-test-drive_N.htm
Quote from the C&D article:
Quote : | "It’s tempting to think of the CR-Z hybrid as the second coming of the CRX, Honda’s light, tossable mid-1980s funster, what with the two cars’ stubby rear ends, two-seat layouts, and frugal intentions. On the CR-Z launch, in fact, Honda plopped us down in a cherry 1985 CRX Si and told us to go nuts. We did, and we’re sorry, Big H, but the CR-Z just isn’t quite as awesome.
Where the impish CRX used lightness and a stripped-down approach to deliver entertainment and efficiency, the CR-Z looks to a gasoline/electric hybrid powertrain. The difference between the two paths is stark, or so goes conventional wisdom: With less weight and simplicity comes fun and momentum-style hoonage, and with a hybrid powertrain comes, well, soul-crushing dullness. Somewhat shockingly, however, this hybrid is entertaining, even as it tries to marry the disparate concepts of sport and efficiency." |
The reviews are pretty much what I expected. It's basically a sporty looking hybrid for people that want other people to think they drive a sporty car. Nothing sporty about the car itself, unfortunately.6/18/2010 2:55:48 PM |

The CR-Z will be failure of Hindenberg proportions for Honda. It offers nothing to any major segment of car buyers. It doesn't get good gas mileage, it doesn't go fast in a straight line, it doesn't have any room, it's heavy for what it is, and its styling is quirky. 6/18/2010 11:31:13 PM |

^^I wouldn't call it a potential failure of that magnitude. I think they're only projecting sales of 15k a year in the US. 6/19/2010 12:43:45 AM |

Road and Track tested a Spoon Sports CR-Z in this month's issue.
2500lbs, 145 hp (at 8500 rpm) and 25mpg city / 29mpg highway
0-60 in 7.2 seconds, 15.9 1/4 mile time for $8,000 + the price of a CR-Z (let's say $28,000 total).
Is there anyone out there dumb enough to buy this car? What an utterly worthless vehicle. 6/24/2010 4:25:08 PM |

Quote : | "New Honda Hybrid S2000 Beat-er?
We have been waiting for an S2000 successor for quite some time. Rumors have piled up and many renderings were considered to be a good sign of what will come next. However, we are living in “the future of the automotive industry” and hybrid technology becomes more popular and more practical. Honda plans to create an S2000 successor (or not?) based on a hybrid plant and on the 1991 Honda Beat mini convertible. A platform version of a modified Jazz (Fit) is rumored to be used. We believe that the new hybrid roadster will not be as powerful as the S2000, but the specs look promising and the new roadster will be able to accelerate from 0-60mph within 6 seconds!
Not bad for a hybrid car, don’t you think? We assume that an aluminum frame will be used to reduce weight and that a 50:50 weight distribution will be achieved by fitting one motor each to the front and rear. Let us hope that the R&D department is working hard on this one!" |
