I always forget he's 35, since he didn't really do anything till he was 30.
I see Loriano as the closer long term...he'll never stay healthy enough to be dominant for 200+ innings 3/9/2010 9:21:40 AM |

Quote : | "FORT MYERS, FLA. -- The Twins announced that they have signed Joe Mauer to an eight-year, $184 million contract, which will keep the catcher under contract through 2018.
Mauer, 26, will make $23 million each year from 2011 to 2018. The deal includes a full no-trade clause.
He is under contract for $12.5 million this year in the final year of a four-year, $33 million deal. Mauer, a three-time batting champion and reigning American League Most Valuable Player, could have become a free agent after the season.
The team plans to make the signing official on Monday at a press conference in Fort Myers, starting at 6 p.m. The team and Mauer have also said they will have no further comment until the press conference." |

some dude's take on the new ballpark
Quote : | "I don't know if any of you guys made it down to the Target Field open house but I just got back and man is that place awesome. Everything about it is just incredible. There are so many little touches it is unbelievable. I have looked at all the pictures and videos of the place but it doesnt' compare to actually being inside and wandering around. After being in there and checking out everything for 5 hours I can say I would rather be out there on a crappy freezing rainy day out in the cold then in the warm dome. If you don't have a trip planned you need to.
I cannot say enough about it. The concourses are at so much more spacious they shouldn't be cramped at all. The seats are much more comfortable no matter which kind you are sitting in. The scoreboard is unbelievably big. I checked out almost every section in the ballpark and all the sightlines are good. My only complaint is that the upper deck is really steep. I sat in the upper deck in the dome countless times and never had an issue but the ones their made me a little nervous. Especially when the wind is gusting at your back.
The food is great. The standard hot dogs are a lot better than the ones at the dome. The specialty sausages are outstanding and are only $5 which is pretty reasonable. I was looking forward to the state fair stand but none of those were opened. The one thing I cannot reccomend enough is the steak sandwich from Murray's. It is pretty expensive at $10 but it is so good it is worth it. I was doubtful that it would be the same quality as the food at Murray's but it is. That is the one thing I would say you absolutely have to try even if you just split it with someone.
As far as getting around the ballpark they did a great job. I am sure there will be some tight spots when there is 40000 people but there are a lot of different ways to get around from level to level.
One of the big things the dome lacked was personality that isn't the case with the new park. There are little things everywhere recognizing the history of the Twins. I am still dissapointed that they don't recognize their years in Washington as the Senators and give some room to Walter Johnson, Goose Goslin, and other greats but overall there are pictures of all the greats all over the place. No matte" |

TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148441 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah, they use the 1961-1986 font but spell out 'Minnesota' on the front...previously they only had 'Twins' in that font, and it was switched from a cursive font to a non-cursive font in 1987 (then we won 2 WS in the next 5 years)
In 1987 they switched fonts, but added the first jerseys with 'Minnesota' on the front, but it was more of a block text
Before that all the jerseys said 'Twins', none said 'Minnesota'] 4/6/2010 11:57:27 PM |

Hahaha... I just listened to Hawk calling the 9th inning last night. I'm pretty sure he yelled "You have to be dicking me" though I'm not sure what that is supposed to mean. And then there was like two minutes of silence and he solemnly said "and we'll be back."
I don't think he described the play at all. Just was whining and then silence. Glad to hear it.
** After further review he said as the ball sailed towards the dugout "And we are going to lose. You've gotta be BLEEPING me."

Looks like they'll have to face him tomorrow actually. If they wanted to trade, before the game tomorrow would be the ideal time so he doesn't beat you
edit: but really, he's only 26. and the Royals have him locked up through 2013. The Rays might get him actually
