i specifically remember Robin Williams singing Blame Canada

Oh nos! Reruns of Grey's Anatomy are going to be late if we don't end RIGHT NOW!

How Green Was My Valley won best picture over The Maltese Falcon AND Citizen Kane in 1941, your screenwriter friend should have known better. If you're asking yourself what the hell is "How Green Was My Valley" the answer is exactly.

^^ That was to make up for The Grapes of Wrath.

Plus, Welles wasn't a film guy, they'd never give him an award for being better than all of them at their own game.

On a separate note, it's a shame that The Hurt Locker has only grossed $12.7 mil...I'm glad I supported that movie.

Quote :
"Best Supporting Actress winner Mo’Nique elaborated on what she meant when she commended the Academy Awards for being “about the performance and not the politics.” Earlier in the awards season, Mo’Nique had been criticized by some in the media for not making all of the appearances an Oscar hopeful is seemingly supposed to make. Here was her response backstage: “Through this journey and process — and I’m sure some of you are sitting in this room right now — some reporters wrote, ‘Someone needs to teach Mo’Nique a lesson. Someone needs to tell her how this game is played.’ And I am very proud to be part of an Academy that says, ‘We will not play that game. We will judge her on her performance and not on how many dinners she attended and how many pictures she took. It’s on the screen.’”"

i was perfectly okay with her acceptance speech.

If the studio is smart, they'll rerelease it in theaters. That is, if it's not out on DVD already.

^it's already out on DVD...It arrived in my mailbox via Netflix the day after it came out

my DVR cut off b/c it went over, so I missed the best actor, best actress, director and best picture. I'm glad Jeff Bridges and The Hurt Locker won. I never saw The Blind Side, so I have no opinion on Sandra Bullock except her dress was fucking fabulous.

Oh and Legion of Extraordinary Dancers rocks my socks.

I kind of feel like this win is just a token gift to small filmmakers, feminism, and screenplay writers. I watched Hurt Locker after the oscar nominees had been announced. It was a great screenplay, and the directing was good, but nothing particularly new or different: a forgettable film that won't have an ounce of impact on the film industry, beyond notation for first female Best Picture/Director.

^^i totally agree. Tim Robbin's intro for Morgan Freeman was hilarious. "Ted, get me a coffee. It's Ted, right?"

And Colin Ferrell's intro for whoever that guy was, that was also hilarious. "We slept in the same bed. Don't worry, no funny business happened, we were just spooning."
