Maybe a stupid question, but I'll ask anyways...
I just bought a 1 TB External WD My Book HD. However, I accidentally bought it for the Mac, and I'm currently on a PC (Dell).
Can I re-format it to be compatible with Windows XP?
It's still in the packaging, but I got it off Best Buy's web-site for $79, so if I take it back they only give me a store credit, and the price is now $99. Appreciate any help. 3/10/2010 7:40:30 AM |

yepper...i would assume it's formatted HFS, but i suppose it COULD be FAT32...in any case, plug it in...windows will either complain about it and ask you to format it, or you can:
1.) right-click "my computer" 2.) choose "manage" 3.) click on "disk management" toward the bottom of the list in the left window
you might get a notification about initializing a drive and if you do, choose "yes" (i don't think you'll get the notification, though)...find the drive in the list, right-click, select "format" and choose NTFS
