The US Stock market is open between 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, not including extended hours. So I suppose it would make sense for having such a high percentage of trading during working hours.

Yeah, day traders would probably take up a big chunk of that percentage. Although, if you day trade "for a living," I wouldn't think that would count as trading "from the workplace," assuming the "workplace" mentioned in that article would be unrelated to stock trading.

Yes. At minimum I get a 10 fold increase in productivity when connected to the internets. It's tough to develop webpages worth a flip without it

people are going to goof off regardless of the type of distraction.

there's really not that much on the internet to keep me from being productive. tww is the only message board i'm on but i would never even think about opening it on my work computer and facebook is blocked. I keep gmail open, but only recieve one maybe one personal email per week. I may pay the occasional bill, but that's about it.

Do you immediately open up an e-mail and read it when it hits your inbox?

I read a study that said people who keep their e-mail open all day are way more distracted than people that just check e-mail during breaks.

my work email, yes. otherwise i would get buried and the phone would be ringing "hey, did you get my email...". My personal email, it depends who its from and how long it is. But I receive very little personal email. I don't really know why I keep it open, wishful thinking I guess.

One of the best ways to increase productivity is to decrease the number of times you check your e-mail, work included. Is your boss really going to get pissed if takes you 15 minutes to respond to his e-mail, versus 30 seconds after he sends it, all for the purpose of increasing your productivity?

I only check my work email once an hour, unless someone calls me saying they sent me an e-mail.

That being said, I don't really have a job that requires quick responses to e-mails. Oh yeah, and I am on TWW all day.

depends on the situation. i have clients in india that i have to respond to pretty quickly in the mornings, seeing how as 8:00am for me is 6:30pm for them.

in general, whatever email i get is going to be related to whatever project i'm working on or is to notify my in a change in priority/focus to some other project. so yeah, people get pretty pissy if i ignore their email.

i've been using http://rescuetime.com/ for the last 2 weeks to help quantify my productivity and bring visibility to distractions. i'm down to averaging just a few minutes per hour on distractions. DEFINITELY worth the subscription cost for a busy guy like me who wants to TCB. highly recommended

I definitely got a lot more done than usual in these 2 weeks of internetlessness

I also jerked off a lot more frequently, and went to bed ridiculously early on at least 3 occasions

sometimes i'll work for hours then take a 5-10 minute break. other times i find myself working for 10 minutes, then playing on the internet for 15 minutes and repeat. those days i hate myself.
