I picked this show up after last season, or at least near the end of it, and watched all of it non-stop without having to wait for new episodes or seasons

It is by far my favorite show on TV and I can't tell you how ridiculous I feel about how much I've been anticipating this season. Like, I've thought about it often since I watched the last episode

Good episode. The first episodes are not always the best of the season, but they do a good job of setting up the season.

I'm sure there will be some twists along the way. I was surprised how many people were offed in the first episode.

Michael Rappaport is what he is. I was less bothered by him than I was by the pure cartoon that was his brother Dilly. And i'm surprised when people say they've never seen him in anything. He's all over the place. Have you not seen Higher Learning?

and I was definitely expecting Rappaport to be a part of one of the northern mafioso, not a Southern Crowe. the accent is awful...but it goes against his typical character, so I'm interested to see how they flesh out his character.

^Really mixed on that. On the one hand I want it to go forever. On the other I would rather them have a set finale and stop the show before they get bored of it and are just doing it for the paycheck. Just glad they didn't cancel it effective this season.

I have no problem with the "six seasons and a movie" approach, it keeps us from getting into another Simpsons situation where a great show becomes garbage due to being on tv for too long.

correct, originally Boyd was never supposed to make it out of the pilot. It's all but certain that the central conflict of the last season will be Boyd and Raylan.

great episode. somehow wiping the slate clean from loose ends while adding another whole batch of problems. Boyd over Lee Paxton in the beginning was haunting. The Johnny double-double cross against the guy from K&B construction, Art being a badass again, Wash going ham with the assault rifle, and finally Jean Baptiste getting blown away. That was probably surprise of the night, even more so than Theo Tonin getting caught. From all the threatening undertones between Raylan and JB i thought for sure they were headed for a showdown in the end.

If you read the interview with the producer on EW, they explain the surprise with Jean Baptiste. Something about planning on him going til the end of the season but the actor wasn't enjoying it or something like that

That seems to have been a major feature of the show. There are always 100 ways the plot could go and then mid season it clears up a bunch and goes off in some new directions.
