You can have it done professionally by the NC Dept of Ag:

"Sample boxes are not available by mail. Pick them up at your county Cooperative Extension office or at the Agronomic Division office in Raleigh."

So basically I go here:

4300 Reedy Creek Rd
Raleigh, NC

Get soil test boxes, drop the back off, and wait a week.

Ands its free. Cool!

^yep. NCCES gives each person one free soil test a year. And if you need more, I don't think they're all that expensive

Pretty painless. I used to have a blue million of the boxes, but don't anymore. Yep, just go by the lab, pick up the boxes, and you know the rest.

I've taken 20 or 30 at a time, but I don't remember what they cost.

^^^More than a week right now. But yeah, the hardest part of the whole thing was folding the boxes into boxes.

^^ Those meters suck and are never accurate. Go to the NCAGR building up on reedy creek rd. When you pull in their is a sign to the right that says soil test drop off/ pick up. Go around their and you can pick up all the soil sample sheets and boxes you need. Fill the sheet out correctly and take a correct soil sample then drop it all back off at the same place. They'll mail you the results in a few weeks or you can view them online. It's very easy and free. Everyone pays for this with their tax dollars so take advantage of it. I submit about 50 soil sample to them a year.

In sand/gravel/stone, I'd rather do a sand cone. (can't do a drive tube anyways!)
In silt/clay, I'd rather do a drive tube.
We don't have a nuke gauge
