Well it looks like I'm going back to school. I would like a new laptop. After looking at my options is seem like every manufacturer has stopped offering matte (nonglossy) screens. Does anyone know of any nonglossy options out there? 4/14/2010 4:31:15 PM |

nonglossy screen or nonglossy case?
Lenovo is tried and true non-glossy magnesium body. Or a Dell Adamo. Or any of a selection of ASUS laptops all have metal cases.
If it was me (in retrospect) I'd hit up a eeePC (one of the new models) with the 14 hour battery. Lugging my 15" laptop was just a bit much after adding in 3-4 books. The eee keeps up all day and all night without charging and allows me to type papers and screw off in class. If you need horsepower go to a lab or get a fast desktop. 4/14/2010 8:29:59 PM |

Thanks for the help guys, guess I need to just look harder. I talked to Dell and they said they only sell glossy screens. Half my problem is many places dont list whether it is glossy or not. 4/15/2010 10:58:16 AM |

Yeah, you're best (and probably only) option is a ThinkPad. I'm sure you can find a business class laptop from Dell and HP that don't have glossy screens. But, if you're going business class machine, I'd stick with Lenovo. 4/16/2010 10:59:04 AM |

yea the thinkpads sound great. I feel like an idiot but maybe yall can help me out, after searching all of lenovo's website I still cant tell which screens are glossy and which are not. I called them up and they said whichever ones say antiglare are non glossy. Problems is I dont see antiglare anywhere. I really want a matte screen so im not trying to pick the wrong one. Are all thinkpads nonglossy? 4/16/2010 3:10:38 PM |

like wwwwww said above all the T-series are non-glossy. Most of the others are too.. I'm not sure about the X-series (or whatever they call the tablets)
I love my T60.. the bookstore fucked up the order and gave me one with a 512mb ATi card in it. no complaints except I had to replace the cooling fan once in 4 years. and the keyboard when I spilled Dr pepper in it 4/18/2010 8:38:50 PM |

I dono, I have a Lenovo T60 laptop that is 2 years old that is still going very strong with (knock on wood) no issues besides a bad battery that I replaced with a genuine lenovo 9-cell for 40 bucks.
My wife also has a 1 year old T61 (I believe) Lenovo that has had 0 problems.
Obviously we are just 2 of many but they are doing just as well as the IBMs I have used before them (that I obviously liked enough to make it a point to buy IBM/Lenovo again). I personally like the non-glossy screens and non-glossy cases too. Yea its not necessarily "sleek" looking but it stays "clean" looking no matter what. 4/18/2010 10:27:39 PM |
