I got a speeding ticket going 44 in a 35 to work on 3/10. When I got to work, they laid about 40 of us off and I was one of them, but that is beside the point. Apparently, I have a ticket from may 09 that I thought I got taken care of. Now that ticket and the new ticket are going to go on my insurance. (My court date is tommorow. They didnt have the ticket in their system at the courthouse. I would have gotten away with having to pay nothing but I called up there to see how much my fine was for and the clerk said my ticket wasnt put into the system, that they had unknowingly omitted it.)

I got the ticket in york county sc. I currently live in Wilmington, which is 4 hours away. The officer reduced the ticket when he pulled me over so none of the lawyers in the area can help. I don't want to have to drive 8 hours just to see if the judge will let me take traffic school. I call the magistrates office and they say I can't talk with the magistrate prior to the trial.

The insurance people said it will put 3 point surcharge on my insurance premium. Does anybody have a clue how much they think that will be?

It'll be enough to make it worth driving to see the magistrate. points on the insurance can seriously jack your rates up.

SC won't report the ticket to North Carolina. When your car insurance looks for your driving record, they'll only look in NC.


You can just pay the fine and not have to worry about the points on your insurance.

I had a similar problem with a speeding ticket in SC. Instead of asking TWW, I called student legal services and they told me this. I paid the ticket, and no insurance hikes for me

I got a 9-over speeding ticket in SC about 10 miles from the NC border in June of 2007, just sent a check in the mail to pay it off, and when I switched insurance companies a few months ago they knew about it. Still got that cheap rate, though. Didn't affect me on my previous insurance, either. If you're certain it'll hurt your rates, then I would shop around a bit.

more than likely you weren't actually only doing 9 over. it's a sort of courtesy. not as much of a courtesy as not pulling you over for doing 13 over would be, but hey.

I'd be careful in this situation. First time I got a ticket out of state (VA) I just paid it. Second time it happened (again VA) I just paid it. And a few months later got fucked in the ass by my insurance company. My insurance costs went up $600/yr for one ticket (80 in a 65) on a clean record.

I'm not sure if you get a "free pass" first time you get an out of state ticket. Just be careful.

Well the first ticket I got was in SC too and the insurance co. had it on my record. So I'm guessing this one will go on there too. I'm probrably going to end up having to drive up there and ask the judge if I can do driving school.

If it's only for 9 over it won't be any points on your license. When they report if (if they report it, they didn't report mine) then the point-on-your-license rules apply as if you'd gotten the ticket here, and not in SC

this is why i love my DC license. 10 square miles of jurisdictional coverage and they NEVER pull people for speeding within district limits (hard to drive that fast in the city anyway) all my tickets are essentially out of state speeding taxes. ive gotten 2 in NC and 2 in VA (including one of those BS middle of VA/I-95 "Reckless driving" speeding tickets) and all i have to do is pay the fine and they never show up anywhere. in fact in DC i have negative points because you get a point to play with for every year you dont have a ticket, up to a certain amount.

i guess this is true for SC, but my dad recently got a 80 in a 65 ticket in ohio, then a few weeks ago he got a letter from NC saying his licence was being suspended for said ticket in ohio (that he just paid) since i was for 80 mph or more unless he went down to the courthouse for some bullshit. he ended up just talking to someone and his license wasn't suspended, but I guess NC is getting strict on that shit, maybe a way for them to make more money on court costs/etc? I don't think his insurance went up but NC still knew about the ticket
