The Mrs. and I will be heading that way in two weeks. We plan to...

Roanoke Island (just the park, not going to see the show (I don't think it's even opened yet))
Currituck Lighthouse
Hatteras
Kill Devil Hills/Wright Brothers Memorial

don't think this will help, but we lived out there when i was a kid and when we went to see the lost colony play i was about 5 yrs old and after the big fight when the lights dim and the 'dead' actors leave the stage i felt the need to loudly point out to everyone that they 'weren't really dead!'

YES!! Yes! It does help, believe it or not. When the opportunity presents itself, the big accounts or amounts are just as doable as a small one. It takes the same amount of time to give good customer service. So, to live, we must aim high.

if you go to jockey's ridge or the write brothers memorial you should drive along the beach road (virginia dare trail) and look at the old cottages aka the "unpainted aristocracy"

a lot of them have been around since the late 1800s and early 1900s and the design is really awesome - they're on the national registrar of historic places.

def go see the lost colony! i love seeing it. i haven't seen it in years. the elizabethan gardens are right there and should still be pretty in june!

instead of taking the NEW main highway all the way to the OBX if you decide to go do the wright brothers stuff, go the old school way and go into manteo and wanchese and shit.

you can do the elizabeth II in manteo which is kinda fun and touristy
http://www.nc-outerbanks.com/elizabeth.html

could also eat lunch in manteo. very cute downtown area you will find yummy places.

if you go to hatteras lightouse there are some great pottery places along the way that you could stop at.

you could always go to the aquarium http://www.outerbanks.com/ncaquarium/

if you end up doing wright brothers monument you can stop at the OBX brewing company http://www.obbrewing.com/ its NOT amazing but i mean...local beer, whatevs.

if you do jockey's ridge the little store area across the street has a neat store, kitty hawk kites. you could also do hang gliding lessons there! or bring a kite to fly! http://www.kittyhawk.com/
i just think the store is neat. has a lot of cool kites and stuff to look at.

if you have time to make it down to corrolla you could do that.

nags head woods ecological preserve http://www.outerbanks.com/NagsHeadWoods/

hmmm hmmm hmmm. let me think for awhile longer and i will post more things if i think of them!

I'll be in Kitty Hawk / Nags Head during that time, staying with my Uncle (and former Mayor of Kitty Hawk).

My girlfriend and I just went to Manteo earlier this month. We stayed 2 nights in the Scarborough House Inn which I recommend if you like a homey bed and breakfast. It's a 3 minute walk to downtown Manteo which is actually really nice.

Here's what I did and would recommend:
-drive up to Duck and look around the shops
-Jockeys Ridge State Park is a MUST
-walk around Fort Raleigh on Roanoke Island, there's alot of history there and nice views of the Roanoke Sound
-make the trip to Hatteras, climb the lighthouse for a fee (it was closed for renovations at the time but should be open now)
-from there, hop on the ferry to Ocracoke, rent a bike and explore the island
-downtown Manteo has a festival the first Friday of every month (kinda similar to what Raleigh does)

Lighthouses of course, the aquarium is quite cool. Ocracoke is great too, lots of excellent shops and restaurants. It's a heck of a drive (2.5+ hours to the end of Hatteras Island, plus a ~30 minute ferry ride) but it's worth it if you can spend most of a day there, or even stay the night. If you're already planning to visit the Hatteras lighthouse, then you're almost there anyway.
