I'm trying to come up with a good layout for my living room (bottom) and family room (top). I'd really appreciate any input, especially in the family room. Walls are about the color of the flesh of a pear and the carpets are sage green (ugly I know).
Upper left block is the fireplace (19.5" deep) On the wall at the top are a 72" wide window(left)/door(right) and to the right of that is a 70.5" wide window.
On the bottom wall is a 70.5" window approximately centered.
Living room is in the front of the house, to the right is the foyer. The dining room (left) and kitchen (right) are in the middle (not fully depicted. Zig-zag wall between the kitchen and family room is a bar.

I'd go with a nice shag carpet instead of sodding the hallway though. 4/22/2010 5:08:24 PM |

the colors of that carpet throw me off big time as far as what colors to go with. If money is no object, I'd seriously recommend re-carpeting or putting hardwood or even laminate down
Maybe im being dumb tonight, but im confused by the layout of your house. I understand that the livingroom is the room at the bottom of the picture and the room at the top is the family room.
So the kitchen is on the right side of the picture where the top zig-zag wall shares with the living room? Is the dining room above the living room and to the left of the kitchen? Where is the front door? Sorry if these questions are stupid, I'm just not visualizing the other rooms from the description. 4/22/2010 8:44:41 PM |

I think the green I posted for the carpet is way off. It looked right on my other computer, but it's far off when I look at it here.
Anyway, I intend to replace the carpet with hardwood at some point.

The exits from the living room are the foyer (to the right) and the dining room (top). There is a wall between the kitchen and the dining room, I just didn't measure it.
Family Room (from the dining room), sorry for the narrow angle from my phone's camera.

Doorway on the right goes through the foyer into the living room. Laundry room goes to the garage: ]4/22/2010 11:06:01 PM |

I know about that. I lack any creative talent, so I am unsuccessful at putting anything together that looks nice.4/22/2010 11:08:48 PM |

first question. Any preference on where the TV goes? I am not a fan of putting them over the fireplace. Yes, it looks clean from a showing perspective but its not my favorite for viewing angle/height. However, this is your house, so your preference on that is obviously more important. If you want to keep the fireplace as part of the main-view of the room (which I recommend) I imagine your two options are to put the TV over the fireplace or on the wall to the left of the fireplace unless you had something else in mind. 4/24/2010 9:50:26 PM |

Yeah I do have something else in mind... no TV. I don't have TV service. The TV, xBox, and whatnot are upstairs.4/25/2010 11:18:28 AM |
