YES!!!! I started crying on the phone when the director told me (oops )... I just feel so relieved

LOLOLOL... The director told me they have a hard time recruiting people to that area because people automatically assume deep south = "Bubba"

But I mean, there's only that facility in Alabama for genetic counseling and ONE counselor in the whole state of Mississippi, so they really do need us down there!

what exactly is genetic counseling?

i freaking LOVE genetics.
i did genetic research for years before i switched gears into pharmacy.

Basically, genetic counselors sort of serve as mediators between geneticists/doctors and the patient. They also help patients determine their risk for such and such genetic disease and how to proceed if they do in fact have the disorder...

There's a bunch of different fields popping up but the main ones are cancer, prenatal, pediatric, and adult. I would also be the one breaking good or bad news to a patient.


AHHHHH it feels so awesome finally knowing for sure that I will be in that position one day

so will you be the type of person who, say a young(er) girl gets tested for the likelihood that she will develop breast cancer because like every woman in her family has had it and the tests come back with a 70+% chance that one day she will get it and then you would counsel them on the options?

^3 yup.... and I would also counsel them on what their best options are for tests and dealing with insurance, etc etc

and in some cases I would be with a patient during a test (i.e., a prenatal patient getting an ultrasound)
