They managed to cut fiber on 38 oc-192s. fuck these guys and fuck the PSTN. Anyone here like their telco company because im looking for input on picking a new one (toll free and did inbound)
As an aside, our backup carrier (zone telecom) is freaking great.

... are you sure that Verizon themselves actually did it?
... and how is this different from every other major fiber cut that's occurred in recent years? 4/23/2010 5:58:49 PM |

verizon has no redundancy in their network. The last time this happened to us they were down for 13 hours because they annihilated some fiber and the first time the fixed it they did it backwards. Their internal groups are disorganized as fuck and they cant figure out where equipment they own is without sending people out to the location.
They're just a bad company and I'm tired of dealing with them. I dont know if it was their own fiber or if it was fiber they leased from someone else but it doesn't fucking matter. They're responsible for making sure it doesn't get fucked up and when it does, they're responsible for proper failure routing.
God I hope qwest or sprint or whoever else is out there isn't this bad. 4/23/2010 6:17:14 PM |

^Qwest is pretty fucked. I work for an IT company and they do our toll free numbers (IT service desks for some fortune 500s) and they've managed to cause 3 outages this year, one of which was a failover where they forgot to forward our 800s. Their sales and support is atrocious. Some of their internal IVR products have people who dont even know the menus answering their front line/level 1 support.
Dont know much about Sprint.
Cincinnati Bell (local) actually does a pretty nice job. Great change management procedures. 4/23/2010 8:25:12 PM |

argh. I cant wait for the pstn to fucking die. Dealing with this shit is just aggravating.
We used to have some at&t stuff, but i didn't really do the phone stuff then so idk how reliable they were. It was expensive as hell though. The state's ilec is fairpoint and they are litterally the worst of all telcos everywhere. 4/23/2010 11:23:59 PM |

Well CenturyLink just finalized the purchase/merger of Qwest, so they're on their way to being a super-telecomm-monopoly. Not that bad of a company, especially since they have an entire department devoted to social media and solving problems via twitter and facebook.
