I am putting my '84 Toyota pickup truck up for sale. It has been a good truck, but I no longer drive it enough to justify keeping it. I bought this truck from a friend about five years ago. Here are some specs
1984 Toyota Pickup Xtra Cab - 4WD, Aisin locking hubs, Solid front axle, 22R carburated engine - Brand new clutch, center link and tie rods -Aftermarket JVC cd player and polk speaker boxes behind the seats -31X10.5X15 Savero Mud Tires with lots of tread left - Off brand spray in bed liner - Challenger diamond plate toolbox - Original upholstery is in good condition. Seat covers have always been used - The original jump seats are in the xtra cab area, but aren't bolted on - The truck was previously repainted and Bondo'd by my buddy before I purchased it. There are several small spots where rust is coming back through, however. -There are a few small cracks on the dash caused by the sun -AC and heat work great
The only problem I currently have with the truck is getting the new tie rods to fit the backspacing on the wheels properly. This is causing some alignment issues, but the mechanic I took it to said it would be an easy fix. I would rather sell it than keep messing though. This would make a great off road vehicle, hunting/ fishing truck etc. The truck is located in Raleigh and I am asking $3000

No, it is the original 22R motor. I have never replaced any engine parts at all and neither did my friend who owned it before me. The truck is older than I am, so I only know so much history on it lol
Mileage

not trying to be a dick but timing gear (timing chain and guides) should be replaced every 120k.
that's an interference engine, so if the timing chain breaks, you're gonna need at least a rebuilt head. (ask me how I know..)
you might want to do the timing on it and you can ask for more cash.
good looking truck though
I've got an '85 4runner and just sold an '86 pickup 4/26/2010 11:53:48 PM |

Holy shit, 2 years ago I would have been all over this. As it is, I'm still tempted...what are the chances of you still having it in 3 months? 4/26/2010 11:54:06 PM |

^ Well, hopefully I won't still have it in three months, but if I do you can come take a look at it. I put it up on several websites tonight and already have a ton of emails so we'll see what happens.
^^ Yea, its about time to replace the timing chain, but I just really don't want to do anything else to this truck. It's not my daily driver so it should be OK until someone buys it. 4/27/2010 12:17:40 AM |

yeah no offense but i don't see you getting $3k for a 1984 truck with 300k+ miles
I sold a 97 truck about 6 months ago for less than $2k

^odometer says only 130k and that's not a bad price on an old toyota. they're solid trucks and sell for more than similar mid-size and compact trucks.
in other words, your anecdotal evidence means little. leave the man alone and let him sell his truck.

oh yeah i dont know how i read that as 312k and not 131k
and my anecdotal evidence selling price was based on kelly blue book
you can't even look up vehicles older than 1990
and i'm not trying to mess up him selling his truck, I just didn't think $3k was realistic for an 26 year old pickup

it wouldn't be, if it weren't for that "Toyota" badge
them's right good trucks
i've got a $5.5k budget right now for a truck, and I'd love a toyota, I'm just looking for something a little bigger
too bad you can't find a halfway decent TRD under $10k

this truck is worth ever bit of $3k
i sold an '86 pickup with 149k on the odometer and non working AC for near that much, not 2 weeks ago
mine had the 22RE, which is fuel injected though
it's worth whatever the market will bear, and toyota's hold their value 4/27/2010 3:36:27 PM |

lots of "i'd pay $3k" and "that's worth $3k" and very little actual purchasing going on
it's NOT worth $3k until someone gives the man $3k 4/28/2010 3:05:13 PM |

84 was the last year of the double timing chain 22r, which are much less prone to problems than the later ones. It's also the last year you can swap a 20r head onto it. 3k seems a little high, but these ragged out old toyotas always sell for too much. 4/29/2010 8:59:25 AM |

Of course I'd have to look at it and drive it, but I'm in for $1500 initially... Just to get the ball rolling for ya. 4/30/2010 3:38:13 PM |
