anybody got a rough idea on cost of finishing a half bath in a new construction? Right now all the hookups are ready for it, just needs the toilet, sink, mirror, towel rack, paint on the wall, and a plumber to hook everything up and get it working.


i know i can get a pedestal sink for ~$50-75 and a standard toilet for about the same price. Towel racks obv. are cheap, mirror not sure on. Paint i can do myself. I don't really know what else would be needed though

why not just do it all yourself? hooking up toilets and sinks are easy if the plumbing is already there

Spend more than 50 dollars on your toilet. You'll be spending an awful lot of time there over the next several years.

^ if it'll mainly be used by guests get the cheapest most uncomfortable toilet and seat you can find. Don't want them staying too long.

i'm pretty sure i can do most of it by myself, i was just wondering as to how much it would cost me about

sink $75
mirror $75
towel racks $25
Coat of paint $25

~$300


for people that have done this before is that a reasonable price? I was guessing in my head maybe $500

if all you're concerned about is the price of the materials, why not just go online and look at prices at lowes, home depot, etc.?

Toilet: $112 +tax
sink pedestal base: $45+tax
sink pedestal top: $90 +tax
faucet: $25+tax
towel rack: $15+tax
primer+paint: $30+tax

so $317+tax

i know i can find a pedestal sink cheaper than $150, at least $100, so maybe...


i need to double check that all the plumbing is set up so all i need to do is install.

You'll need a wax ring, bolts, and bolt covers for the toilet unless they come with it. I've never bought a new toilet so I don't know.

You'll need a toilet supply line unless it comes with it.

You'll need caulk and a caulk gun for the sink and toilet base.

The primer + a gallon of paint will probably be closer to $40 ($15 primer, $25 paint) as long as you go with good stuff.

You'll need ceiling paint unless it is already painted.

You'll probably need trim paint for the door trim, baseboards, and any crown molding you have.

I recommend hitting thrift stores for a mirror with a solid wood frame and then painting it to match the trim. Just find one in the size and shape that you like. They're usually somewhat plentiful and can be had for $15 or less.

You'll need two supply lines for the sink.


Your $500 estimate is probably a pretty good one if you do everything yourself. You might even come in a little under. Paying a plumber $65-$85 an hour to set toilets, install a faucet, and hook up supply lines is a waste and will add quite a bit to your final cost. Any handyman can do it for closer to $30 an hour, but I recommend just doing it yourself and picking up a new skill in the process. Keep in mind that the sink and toilet will come with instructions and there is a wealth of information available on the internet.
