Yes like this year. He did more good than bad this year. Probably miss the tournament without him.

Try and deny it all you like, that's the truth.

I hope he comes back. Considering what our front court is looking like next year, you'd have to be retarded not to what him back.

That said, he really really really needs to cut out the turnovers and brain farts if he's going to be anything more than an enigma.

He does more good than bad, true. But I don't think I've ever seen a player have more NEGATIVE plays that CJ. The negative plays is what kills us.

I think CJL and JJ Hickson coming back will really boost our season expectations.

CJ would fit much better on next year's team for sure. We didn't need hero ball this year. Purvis had the same issue.

Exactly...if either one likes money they will be back next year and work their asses off to get a guaranteed contract via first round.

To me, CJ can really improve next year if he comes back. If he just cuts the mistakes in half, he'd improve his draft stock 10 spots minimum IMO.

Zo I'm not sure about. I love the guy, but he just never seems to play with urgency. I know the cool/smooth/calm thing is kind of his game, but when things aren't going well, it starts to look like a lack of hustle and effort. I just wish he was grittier, tougher, meaner sometimes ... but it's just not who he is.

^^ Yes...Steve Nash is ~43% from 3 for his career. I guess someone needs to guard him every once in a while.

Like I said in the game thread, between the off season knee surgery and ankle injury, he wasn't the same off the dribble for a large part of the year. I think his vision and passing ability were better though.

so we lose our best 2 players no matter what and our 3rd and 4th best players need to think about it but people still think theres a chance we're better next year.

If brown and Leslie both came back and improved some we could be decent again next year. We wil stop running wood all around trying to get him open and maybe purvis will have a big jump. We will be weak in the post but Leslie brown purvis and warren would be fun to watch with Lewis and barber able to give us some guard depth at least.

No matter who does/doesn't come back next year, rebounding is gonna be a HUGE concern. Leslie isn't a great rebounder and neither is TJW. Everybody already knows this, but we're gonna miss Howell a lot.

^I'm not going to look up his quote, because it's not a big deal, but I thought he was saying that the team wasn't motivated in the 1st half.

Half of rebounding is desire. Warren really seemed to get better at rebounding as the year went on, but it's still not his strong suit.

Somehow, it seems like CJ has gotten worse as a rebounder since his freshman year ... maybe because of Howell's emergence (figured he didn't need to go hard if Rich was gonna get it anyway). Just seems like if CJ wants to be a really good rebounder, he can be.

When it came to this season, the whole team had a Jekyll and Hyde persona, but it was #5 who exemplified this bipolar personality the most. It’s not too hard to figure out that the old C.J. was around for most of the season when we needed Calvin to lead this team. If he stays, the alternating Calvin vs C.J. personalities will be back--adding more frustration. If he goes pro, he might as well end up in Australia--a no-win situation.

CJL's athleticism and jumping ability certainly could make him a good rebounder. You're right, a lot of it is desire. TJW seemed decent on the offensive glass most of the year (not sure what the stats are and if they reflect that...just what it seemed like). And his defensive rebounding certainly picked up down the stretch.

He needs to spend the entire off season eating cheeseburgers and shooting jump shots. A few hours a week with a shrink wouldn't hurt either.

We need him back next year. Not sure why people think next year we will do better than this year. If Brown and Leslie leave we will be counting on sophomores and freshman, with probably no high scoring big man, and no one who seems to be a great shooter from the outside.

CJ's defense wasn't abysmal. First off, his offense was extremely solid, and his big error defensively was the same problem the whole team had, not playing tight to his man off the ball and so he was late closing out shots. I wouldn't consider him any better or worse than the whole team.

I think you can say his defense was below average, but if the rest of the team played well, it's not like he was the reason we lost.

I think the reason people give CJ a hard time is because he's usually the best athlete on the court. With his quickness and length, he has the ability to completely shut people down if he'd just lock in and play hard ... he just rarely does.

Just rewatched the first half - Leslie was caught being lazy behind a low screen ONCE - The rest were Howell.

Also, now that I'm able to pay attention, the refs were worse than I thought. Leslie got literally shoved out of bounds no fewer than three times and Temple was walking all over the place with no calls.

another of the 3's by white dude was Warren's missed assignment but we had just switched to zone defense, so I can understand a bit of confusion with like 3 seconds on the shot clock

also if you think that cj isnt important, 3 of our worst losses of the season (ok state b/c of the margin, and wake/fsu b/c of the quality of opponent) had CJ on the bench way more than usual.

if our back up SG behind purvis was marques johnson he'd be "valuable" too but wouldnt be any better a player

We will miss him.

Death of another State prospect. Eventually top recruits will realize not to come here as this school is cursed with top talent. Wilkens, Sherrill, Costner, Leslie, Purvis.
