From raleigh's site, they don't take them.

So, I have several hundred old technical books that need to become toilet paper. They are from the late 80's and early 90s. (I was pranked by my staff recently).
Unless someone is interested in a 700 page book on NT 4.0 or learning how to program with Pascal, and a Database Systems book from 1984... well then you can have 'em for free.
I could toss them all in a dumpster, but I'd rather recycle if it's possible.4/30/2010 3:54:23 PM |

Can you strip the covers to expose and remove the glue? 95% of a book recycled is better than 0%. 4/30/2010 4:00:05 PM |

Post on craigslist for free for anyone that picks them up? Also, a lot of used bookstores have "free book" bins and stuff out front of them that you might be able to drop them off at. Beyond that, I dono. 4/30/2010 4:00:15 PM |

while recycling is certainly preferable to tossing it in the trash, at least paper products break down FAIRLY easily
obviously things like binding materials don't break down all that quickly, certain inks are mildly toxic (older inks, anyway), and certain paper coatings (specifically the glossy ones) inhibit deterioration...but all-in-all, it's not nearly as bad as throwing away recyclable plastics

with all that ink and page varnish, i don't think recycling tech books is beneficial to anybody. 4/30/2010 4:29:09 PM |
