ever since the incident a few years ago at the chi sox game, you can in no way be overcautious.
or even the seles thing before then, which was more severe.
you dont want to become complacent, thinking "oh he's not causing any harm"
when the one you least expect to, will.

What would you expect me to do? It's a legit thread/topic and I'm not going to suspend or warn the kid because I don't agree with him, even if he is making irrelevant comparisons.
And good call on the Victorino thing. I politely asked pshoes to kneecap him on Saturday, but he refused. Thought for a second this kid might have been one of his cronies.

Dude, got what he wanted and was willing to pay the price. One could argue that there is a great chance of him being injured if he's physically tackled to the ground, not to mention the security could be injured as well. He got to be on tv, wasn't injured, and the security didn't even have to get dirty. It's a win-win.

To answer the original poster, since I haven't directly addressed him -- yes, I do think this is a legitimate action. It is IMPOSSIBLE for the authorities to determine the intentions of someone on the field and it is a direct and real risk to anyone on the field. It wouldn't be the first time on a baseball field that someone would have been attacked and frankly, if they don't take this action it's only a matter of time before something more serious happens.
Before every single baseball game, there are multiple PA announcements and there is signage in every single stadium outlining that NO non-personnel is allowed on to the field and action will be taken if you violate it.
Just a few examples of people on the field who had bad intentions that were not intercepted first:
Quote : | "Berley W. Visgar, a 23-year-old from South Beloit, Ill., jumped out of the stands and tackled Astros right fielder Bill Spiers in the bottom of the sixth inning. Houston starter Mike Hampton raced to the scene and pummeled the spectator before his teammates came from the bench and bullpen to restore order. Spiers suffered welt under his left eye, a bloody nose and a case of whiplash. " |
Quote : | "Braves pitcher Pascual Perez beaned the Padres' first batter, Alan Wiggins, and kept throwing at him nearly the entire game. A brawl broke out when Wiggins was hit by relief pitcher Craig Lefferts in the eighth inning. Both benches emptied and about five fans ran onto the field to slug it out with the players. During a second brawl one inning later, Atlanta's Chris Chambliss and Jerry Royster tackled a fan who was trying to take a loose helmet near third base. " |
This is actually kind of funny
Quote : | "With the Cubs still in the wild-card race, Cubs reliever Randy Myers gave up a key ninth-inning home run to James Mouton that gave the Astros a 9-7 lead. As Mouton rounded the bases, a 27-year-old bond trader named John Murray came charging in from the right-field stands. Myers used his martial arts training to subdue Murray, who later claimed he pulled the stunt as a dare with his friends. "I was watching the game with some friends and I told them if Myers gives up another homer to a guy I'm going to run out on the field and yell at him," Murray said. "In retrospect, it was a bad move on my part." Um, yeah. " |
Quote : | "In a scene athletes have feared for years, Gamboa was attacked without warning by two fans who came out of the seats. The Royals rushed to his aid and the 54-year-old Gamboa escaped with a few cuts and a bruised cheek. He walked off the field to a standing ovation from the crowd at Comiskey Park, where the Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 2-1." |

Why is this even an issue. He broke a law and resisted arrest, therefore your dumbass deserves to be tasered. Its not like this was in celebration at the end of a game, players were on the field and runners were on base. I hope that MLB bans this kid for life from all events. There is no reason to do this in the middle of a game.
There is a reason that TV cameras don't show people running onto the field during play. These people just want attention and the media is giving him all he wants now. Hopefully seeing a jackass get tasered with deter other jackass from running on the field.
Would anyone be complaining if the security guard did a perfect form tackle on him in the middle of the outfield? No, because that would be cool as shit. But its just as dangerous to the individual to be tackled as it is to be tased. The taser just takes the security guard out of danger or possible injury. 5/4/2010 1:57:29 PM |

^^^in all fairness, a taser wouldn't have prevented any of those examples, as nobody got there quick enough.
I think once someone is randomly running around for 10-20 seconds, it's fairly obvious they're just being a dumbass...

^^^I don't know, maybe the way it was done in the previous 100 years before tasers were around? If anything would be a deterrent, it would be stiffer penalties after all was said and done.
I don't necessarily have a problem with the use of tasers, it's the sliding of the line to where it's deemed "necessary" to use one...Makes one wonder how the job was ever completed without them since they're necessary in so many situations now a days.
^yep, they should've just put 2 in the back of his head...since he was on the field, he had it coming and they'd never have to worry about anyone trying that again.
