This is why it's always best to owe money. The state sits on the money every year... because they need it. You know those news stories where there's money that's out there that people don't know about. WRAL does a bit of research and connects a few people to their missing money, then invites you to check the list. I'm convinced that half of those cases are NC tax refunds.

WRAL: We found you some of your money Mr. Jones. I'll bet you didn't even know it was out there!
Mr. Jones: What? I had no idea!
WRAL: Yeah, your 1972 NC tax refund finally came in.

Filed electronically in early Feb. Got the refund about two weeks ago.

Filed in mid March, nothing yet. I don't have an article to back this up, but I thought I had heard that the state basically said "if you haven't gotten your refund yet don't expect it any time soon, we used up all the money we had allocated and don't have a replacement source yet"

Keep on enjoying that interest-free loan, state of NC. I really need to fix my withholding so I owe rather than get a refund, so they are the ones extending the loan (if you can call it that!) to me.

Did my NC taxes twice, the balance calculated to $0. The instruction booklet said something like, "Send your tax return here if we need to refund you money, but send it here if you are paying money on your return." It's like they act that nobody scores that $0 mark sometimes.

Anyone gotten their NC refund yet? Their 'Wheres my refund' tool is sketchy. Whether you input bogus info or not, the return form is the same:
