The Sprint 4G card I've used was blazing fast (3+Mbit was common) but you still had the request lag. Pings were 300+ so gaming was all but out. But for surfing it's great...

On what planet does 3 Mbit qualify as blazing fast? I get upwards of 2.5 Mbit all the time tethering on my iPhone. I was all set to switch to Clearwire when I found out they were 4G now, but when I read that it was only a 5Mbit max (and in practice, the 3Mbit you mentioned is far more likely) I just don't see the point.

Oh wow, they're offering a 6 down 1 up plan now. Didn't even offer that when I had it. However when we were using it the system was brand new - less than a week old on the 4G rollout. I'm assuming they've added in lots of backhaul to push that speed up now.

It just means you can get speeds up to (theoretically) 7.2 Mbps with a supported 3G device. AT&T has already upgraded all of their 3G towers to the HSPA 7.2 protocol but have only provided the necessary bandwidth to the towers in a few selected areas.

It is the exact same product that Clear sells. And by exact same, I mean EXACT same. The 4G network is the Clear network. The only difference, if I am not mistaken, is that we sell ours for like $20 less per month.

This is a correct statement. And I have seen speedtests on our Mobile card hit 10+ Mbps.

^ the dual mode card (the same one that Sprint sells) is $55 per month. If you lease the equipment it's an additional $5. If you purchase the card, it is a flat $55 per month with no taxes or fees.

Our 4G only card is $40 per month, or you can bundle it with a home unit for $55. You can bundle 2 4G cards for $65. No contract required.

and also, let it be known that just because I work for the company doesn't mean I believe it's God's gift to the internet. It is an awesome product for the price, but has it's limitations. As a sales rep for the company, I can tell you that coverage area and instability of the network are the toughest things I have to deal with on a daily basis. The coverage area issue is easily addressed with the dual mode product (4G/3G) and the network stability is getting better every day (in NC, currently operating at 100% around 99.92% of the time). That being said, if I lived in the coverage area, I would definitely get rid of Time Warner and buy Clear.

If you are seriously considering it, feel free to PM me for the REAL pros and cons that I have seen on a daily basis since we went live with the network in October. I can say this, Clear is about 1000 times better than Clearwire, and I sold Clearwire for almost a year before the conversion.

And I have absolutely 0 pull when it comes to expansion. The regional sales manager of NC (me) pretty much has no say when it comes to intelligence in network design. Take a look at Greensboro's coverage map for example. It looks like someone took a paint brush loaded with paint and just flung it at a map of the Triad.

about 1.5 hrs northwest of Houston, or about 2 hrs east of Austin, or about 1.5 hrs south of Waco. basically right in the middle of one of their largest buildouts.

i figured i'd just ask. i'd love to ditch the wire permanently.

You are probably shit out of luck then. They offered me the Houston job but I turned it down because I didn't want to relocate. Clear is adding 85 markets in 2010, and most of them are major cities, NYC being the biggest of all of them.

The goal of Clear is to be nationwide by 2012. And with my almost 2 years experience with the company, that can be translated to 2015. Although now that Sprint is involved, we have the cheap tower space, so it could happen I guess.

according to that map I should be getting 4g at my apt, at work, and everywhere in between. But for some reason I can only pull a decent 4g signal around briar creek and close to downtown raleigh and a few spots here and there.

Does anyone else use 4g? If so where do you get the best signals. I want to make sure the modem isnt the issue.

^ You should call Sprint. We (CLEAR) have seen this same issue with those cards. They switch to 3G then have a hard time switching back to 4G.

On a related note, our new 3G/4G card that is coming out in June will be compatible with Macs.

So does Failwire monitor people's internet and throttle their connection? I stream music and occasionally play WoW and I swear I've had more connection and latency issues at night (midnight-8am) than anyone else who access it at different times.
