ok so far i have my C drive with the download file for windows 7.
i have the K drive...new one....plugged in and partitioned as a basic drive. windows 7 is downloaded to it as the setup file but it wont format it correctly. im running windows xp right now on the C drive.
What do I need to do to get it to format correctly? 5/8/2010 6:26:54 PM |

Need more info.
What does "plugged in and partitioned as a basic drive" mean to you?
How do you know "it wont format it correctly"? What are you seeing?5/8/2010 6:59:30 PM |

If you look at disk management C drive is the original hard drive and is running windows XP K drive is the new one and it says it is partitioned, basic rather than dynamic, and active.
The file for windows 7 that I have, is windows 7 professional upgrade - 64 bit. It was saved onto the K drive which is the one i am trying to setup with windows 7. I am going to run the computer off of the K drive. I can format it but what do I need to do to get it to run windows 7 as the main drive?
is there something else you need to know or what do i need to go back and do? or proceed on with? 5/8/2010 7:12:36 PM |

what is this "file" on the k drive that has windows 7 installer?
do you still want to be able to use your xp drive/ have xp installed? 5/8/2010 7:56:33 PM |

the file is called Microsoft Windows 7 Professional upgrade - 64 bit.
i dont care to keep windows xp on the computer but i think i have to because its an upgrade and not the full windows 7 file.....atleast this what im worried about
this is the advice i got from a friend....simply burn it onto a disc, take out the old drive so the new (blank one) is just on there. and turn the computer on, let the disc boot up the drive and install. but if its just an upgrade file....means it wont do this, correct? 5/8/2010 8:19:34 PM |

You can do a clean install with the upgrade. 5/8/2010 8:37:13 PM |

Edit the bios to boot to cd/dvd if need be and do a fresh install. If you get an error asking for drivers, your burn was crappy. Burn it again at the lowest speed 1x and make sure you use software with a verify utility built-in. 5/10/2010 11:51:01 AM |
