Half the shows on the history channel now are science fiction bullshit.

A show was on a couple hours ago where they literally said that aliens could have brought the moon from another galaxy.

Aliens visited the Sumerians and made them slaves to mine for gold, and other precious minerals that they could send back to their fleet. They also made zombie-slaves that were raised from the dead, mine alongside the Sumerians.

Alien DNA was combined with Homo Erectus DNA to create the first humans (Adam and Eve).

The Egyptians worked with aliens to create frankenstein-like living creations that were half-animal half-human.

Jesus Christ was half alien.

And the other half aren't even shows about history, ala Ax Men, Sliced (dumbest show ever where they just cut stuff in half), and one could argue pawn stars (which I don't mind), and american pickers.

Agreed, it once played nothing but WW2 and modern marvels, which annoyed me at the time because I wanted to see more medieval and classical stuff.

But now I'd love to go back to the Hitler Channel of old instead of crap like Ax Men.

if you miss the first 5 minutes to any history show and watch the rest, you would think they are presenting facts about certain events and situations.

but that first 5 minutes says "this is how it COULD have happened, one theory we plan to show you"

the biggest bullshit was the Stonehenge special. they went into great detail on a single theory and called it "The Secret of Stonehenge" as if they had figured it out. cheesy reenactments galore on something they think MIGHT have happened.

Here's the thing that always ruins those shows for me. No matter how breathless or sensationally they try to hype the show, I know that if the revelations really were all that groundbreaking, I would have seen news about them ~6mo ago on drudgereport.

Pawn Stars is a lot more educational than most people might guess. I've found myself watching it on occasion and learning a few things. Ax Men and all these other ratings boosters are a bit painful though.

guess you gotta spring for Discovery Science if you want a real show.

Same way surgery shows migrated away from Discovery Health once it came to regular cable

I've only seen Pawn Stars once or twice, but it seems like a poor man's Antiques Road Show. I figured it would be more like American Chopper set in a pawn shop, but it actually seems pretty interesting.

WWII is so much better than medieval dog shit. WWII was pretty much the greatest technology test bed of all time. Massive militaries were pitted against one another with extremely effective tools of death. Many of their light infantry weapons were equally powerful or even more powerful than today's light infantry weapons honestly (But with lower rates of fire). We have reduced the size of a lot of rounds for increased controllability with higher rates of fire. The average soldier in most militaries carried a .30 caliber bolt action rifle or a 9mm submachine gun. Our soldiers had .45 caliber submachine guns (Thompson) as well as .30 caliber bolt action (Springfield), semi-automatic (M1) and fully automatic (BAR) rifles. Back then you were using 30-06 and .45ACP rounds, while today most modern militaries are using the 5.56mm (Or 5.45mm) and 9mm son. There were also .30 caliber and .50 caliber belt fed machine guns as well as mortars, rockets, artillery, mines, satchel charges and hand grenades. There were extremely fast piston engine aircraft as well as jet and rocket powered aircraft later on. There were cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and radio controlled aircraft were developed (The beginnings of todays drones). There were aircraft carriers, submarines, battleships, cruisers, destroyers, etc. Massive non-nuclear weapons (Such as the "grand slam" bomb) as well as nuclear weapons were used. All sides were extremely heavily armed and combat was extremely intense with huge numbers of soldiers, massive assaults, lots of CQB and hand-to-hand combat. Snipers were regularly encountered in all kinds of terrain. You had oceanic combat, air-to-air combat, desert combat, dense forest and jungle combat, urban combat, extreme cold weather tundra style combat as well as good old European style warfare.

The weapons in WWII were pretty much just like the ones today, although the precision was lower with vehicle delivered ordinance (This was made up for in sheer numbers obviously). The massive amounts of artillery being used by both sides had to be absolutely horrific. In places like the Hürtgen Forest you had both sides absolutely decimating one another with artillery. An infantry battle included having shells rained down upon you, often 88mm Flak Guns were converted into ground to ground artillery pieces with DEVASTATING effect. Flying was insanely dangerous as well, since the amount of firepower directed at aircraft performing raids deep in enemy territory was pretty much beyond comprehension. Flak as well as anti-aircraft cannon and machine gun fire was incredibly dense. Death was almost certain for many bomber crews and fighter pilots.

That type of war is something most people today can't even imagine IMO. Not that I know what it's like obviously, but I've certainly read enough about it to know that it was incredibly intense compared to what we're involved in right now. I think the sheer scale of the combat in WWII is unimaginable to most people.
