does anyone at least know where a better place to live would be between brighton, waltham, and somerville? i've been told those are the main areas for people my age that aren't too expensive. work is in wellesley, but i don't mind commuting.

For Boston, you can solve all your problems in the Commons right by Downtown Crossing
In Brighton, St. Elizabeth is sick of all your drinking and fighting.
In Allston, there are nights when you get pretty annoying.

I'm in Cambridge right now, been in the area for 8 months, so for what it is worth:

Are you planning to drive or take the commuter rail to Wellesley? If you are taking the commuter rail then being within easy commute of Yawkee station near Fenway could be crucial - it is a close walk to Kenmore station, which is on all of the Green Lines.

Allston tends to be student dominated as it is between Boston U and Boston College (with some Harvard students also).

I've heard good things about Brookline/Brighton, especially like the Coolidge Corner area. That would also put you on a short green line trip to Yawkee.

Somerville varies quite a bit depending on what part of Somerville you are looking at. East Somerville, especially near Sullivan Station, is sketchy, Union Square is kind of an up and coming neighborhood, Davis Square is nice with a fairly hip vibe, Porter Square is ok, it is getting into the Harvard Area. Somerville is a pretty far commute, but you are completely avoiding Boston/Cambridge in the drive so the traffic could be not so bad, I don't really know.

Don't know much about Waltham, other than it is going to have a more suburban feel than the other towns.

I would love to live in Brookline (its one of the most Jewish neighborhoods I've ever seen) but it comes down to cost, so I probably can't

dannydigtl and peejay live there. If you play any instruments and want to join a band, talk to them.

Either way, they're awesome guys, so it couldn't hurt to hit them up for advice on where to look for housing.

I'm coming up this weekend to do some house/apartment hunting and start getting things situated at work. If any of you are up there and can show me around I'd really appreciate it.

my bff lives in Brookline, and she likes it a lot. Much quieter from her place off Mass Ave where she started, but that area she could afford living alone whereas Brookline she could not.
