There was an older thread, but it was 2 years old. I figured I would start a new one.
Is the Planet Fitness on Western still a good place to go? Also, does anyone know if they still do the $10/mo. with no contract? I don't mind a start up fee, but the rest of it sounds great. If you know, PM me. I did not see that deal on their website.
Aside from that, any recommendations for gyms near campus? 5/13/2010 6:48:59 PM |

They sent me a letter in the mail on Monday saying friends & family could join for just $5. It went out with today's trash. Sorry.
It has been sorta crowded for the last year, but still manageable. I'd still recommend it.

I go to that planet fitness. It isnt too crowded when i go but that is usually before 5am or around 2 pm. other times i have been though it still isnt completely packed. even at the busiest times i have been i rarely have to wait for a bench or machine and if i do most people are willing to let you work in I have found even offering before i ask.
and yes, right now there is some sort of special running. i would go and say your friend sent you but lost the sheet of paper or something. I would give you my coupon thingy but have promised it to another friend. PM if you want my name or something to use there as said "friend"
speaking of...time to go to they gym! 5/13/2010 8:27:36 PM |

I still haven't figured out why people hate PF so much. It's not like they want you to be as quiet as you would in the library...They just don't want you going "UNGGGGGHGHHHHHHH" every time you move a piece of weight. Lets face it, most of the guys that do that are clowns anyway. And with the rubber coated plates you really have to try to make a bunch of noise with them. It's really not a big deal at all.
I really wish they would get rid of some of the weight machines that don't see much use and extend the free weight area all the way to the wall. Another pair of squat racks, more room for non-rack free barbell work, and another pair of bench press stations would be nice, but it is what it is and it's not bad IMO.
For $10 a month and a mile from the house I don't see myself canceling anytime soon.

its come back to bite me convenience wise but i paid upfront (250+tax) for 3 years at peak fitness back in the day, those closed so now its o2 fitness and i had to pay an extra $60 to all of them including the closest one to me
plus its a buddy package so i can always bring in someone with me (dont usually)
so thats 8/month or half that if i were taking advantage of the buddy system, unfortunately its about twice as far as PF 5/14/2010 4:30:45 PM |

^You didn't like Lifestyle Family Fitness? (or was there not one near you?) We bought all of Peak's memberships...so for no charge you could have just transferred until your PEAK membership was due

^^ i signed up with the peak fitness in Fuquay and that guy decided not to close so what i meant is that I moved back to Raleigh and would have to make the 45 min drive each time i wanted to work out or when it became o2 fitness I was finally able to switch to a closer club under the same contract
i went to lifetime and they wouldnt accept my contract from the Fuquay Peak, any other one and it would have transferred and I'd be working out at the one in Cary 5/15/2010 12:00:33 AM |

I love my Rapid Fitness membership....
I got in early and pay 24.99 a month and I can go to any location. There is one downtown, one in N. Raleigh (has a pool), and one on Glenwood. They have tons of classes included (spinning, yoga, etc.) as well as women's only areas. My husband signed up for an MMA class if you are into that. 5/15/2010 12:09:15 PM |

i thought that was odd, cause i just joined up (didn't feel like dealing with the kids at Carmichael anymore) about 2-3 weeks ago and it def was just 10 bucks
so i checked the website and sure enough it's $15 at the moment
http://www.planetfitness.com/ClubOffers.aspx?clubid=10044
BUT it makes sense, cause I got the letter in the mail a couple of days ago (that was already mentioned in this thread), saying a friend or a family member could join for 5 registration at 10 bucks a month... so i figure they jacked up the price so that their "promotion" could just be their normal price... if you can find someone who already goes there and get the letter, you should be able to join for the lower rate... i'd give you mine, but i think the gf is gonna use it
but as a comment on planet fitness, i just use elliptical and treadmills... and as long as i don't show up at 5:15pm during the week, i haven't had much of a problem getting right on and getting my 20 minutes in
i thought about joining the Y because i'd heard good things about it... but with the involvement in getting there from where i live, i might as well fight the hoards at the state gym5/16/2010 2:31:41 PM |
