^^ READ IT thanks!

i love sports injuries. that sounds evil but i do. during what i like to call my college major round robin, i spent about 1.5 years as a bio/sports med major

totally wish i had stuck with it. i love bones. and sawing bones. and other athletic injuries.

katherine:

about two weeks ago after a run i had some discomfort during and after, discomfort that i attributed to just shin splits.

i took it easy for the last two weeks, watned to run a good time at the half this morning

the pain has been localized since then, and honestly i should have suspected something was up, and out of the ordinary.... i even commented before the run that my leg was hurting badly, but figured it'd go away after a few miles.

by mile 2 it was hurting really badly

keep running, by mile 12 it was the most painful thing i had ever experienced to just keep to take a step

i walked most of mile 12, came around the corner, and said goddamnit im going to finish this bitch running

took about 70 strides, was about 50-75 feet from the finish line, landed on my left foot, heard a really loud pop an just collapsed.

laid on my stomach, legs up in the air.. some friends that had already finished were cheering me on, and the whole area gasped and seemed to be in shock

i looked up, a friend leapfrogged the banister, came to me, while another ran to get the paramedics

they came out on the course, flipped me over, got it stablized, and i finished on a gurney.

lulz.

honestly, when it happened i didnt feel anything at all

oddly enough, it felt better than it had been druing the normal strides

while getting intot he AMBERLAMPS though it started to kick in

went into what im assuming was shock, shaking and that didnt help the situation

get some drugz in, get xrays, went immediately into surgery... from the accident to being in my room now took, like, 6 hours?

not bad really.

feelin' quite good right now, but just a constant throbbing pian

nothing like earlier before the DRUGZ kicked in

that was completely ridiculous

you should make up some wicked story (I'll help you embellish it if need be), about breaking your leg. Like you were protecting your girlfriend in a bar fight, and you literally broke you leg after kicking some street tough in the ass.

hahahaha omg. i totally read the whole post too

poor PSHOES

did ya get you some good pain killers? if anything like that ever happens to me i hope i can be awake during the surgery and watch. i know this lady that got a knee replacement and they could do it while she was awake so she could watch the whole thing. that would be badass. i wonder if it'd be gross though like at the dentist where you can feel the pressure. and smelling your own skin getting cauterized or something might be super gross.

pshoes has way more determination.

If the pain was that bad I would have said screw off to the marathon pretty early in.

SERIOUSLY? god i hate when i can't watch that stuff. as a kid the nurses and doctors did not understand that when they had to hold me down to give me shots or put an IV in that ALL I WANTED TO FUCKING DO WAS WATCH. not have them talking to me and trick me into looking away while the stabbed me. do not like the element of surprise at all. no sir. not with needles.

anyways gg ben for finishing and for running while in pain, too. that is great. i mean sucks you got injured but you finished!! that is awesome.

for those who don't know where this thread stemmed from....pshoes post in the Get In Shape thread:

Quote :
"ram a half marathon, broke my leg 75 feet from the finish

according to the doctor, i probably already had a stress fracture develop over the last few weeks, and it pretty much exploded as i took a stride... no pot hole, no nothing, just heard a snap, went down, and was looking like theismann

out of surgery, will have a steel rod in my leg for the rest of my life, and my distance running days are likely over "

a stress fracture isn't necessarily attributable to a calcium deficiency, just fyi. i mean but it can add to the likelihood of one of course.

Quote :
"A stress fracture is one type of incomplete fracture in bones. It is caused by "unusual or repeated stress". This is in contrast to other types of fractures, which are usually characterized by a solitary, severe impact.

It could be described as a very small sliver or crack in the bone; this is why it is sometimes dubbed "hairline fracture". It typically occurs in weight-bearing bones, such as the tibia (bone of the lower leg) and metatarsals (bones of the foot).

It is a common sports injury, and most cases are associated with athletics."
